Weekend Wrap-Up: The Mother's Day Edition

Happy Sunday!

There are a few things to celebrate today.  First up, it is Papa's birthday!  Happy Birthday Papa!!!!!  Hope it was a great one.

Next up- HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!!!  We are so lucky to have so many amazing mothers and grandmothers in our lives- Nana (pictured above), Gi-Gi, Grammy, Boom, and G-ma.
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!!!  WE LOVE YOU!!!
And then there is me.  I'm a mother too.  And my little ones are...something special, as you can see...

Hahahahahahahahaha.  My girls are SO photogenic.
Just kidding.  I had to giggle that the one time I tried to get a cute picture with them (that was not a selfie), THIS happened.

Anyway, we had a ridiculously good weekend.

Saturday Highlights:

Out for a run at 6:15am on Saturday morning.  It was beautiful.  And foggy.

Playing around at home with my sweet girls.
Callie doing "nastics."
Hanging out outside and the 4-year-old became the photographer.
All these shots were taken by Callie- including her winter boot in the upper
left corner.  And the selfie.

We took a trip to the flower store to get some pretty things to fill the
pots in front of our house.

We went to a BBQ at the Wicks' and there were 5 little
girls playing.
Sunday Highlights:

Chris had to leave at 5am to work the "Race for the Cure."  I was awoken
at 7am sharp and given my mother's day present- a sweet tile with frogs on it
made at preschool.

The girls and I spent the morning playing at home, and then taking a trip
to Starbucks and Trader Joe's.

We spent the afternoon bowling with G-ma, Pa, Uncle Dan, Hanna, and Auntie Cat.
Callie LOVED it.  Hooray for bumpers!

It was fun to all be together!
The only thing that would have made this day better would have been actually seeing my mom, but we had conflicting schedules today!  I'm thankful that she lives close and we get to see her (and the rest of my family) regularly.  The girls are pretty lucky to have all the grandparents, aunts and uncles in the same "town"!

As for my running- my goal this week was 9 miles, and I did 9.75 running and 2 more walking.  I tracked my calories pretty religiously (except yesterday- it was my cheat day) and because of my efforts lost about 2 pounds this week.  Whoop whoop!

My mileage goal for this week is 12 miles.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

Favorite-Things-Phone-Dump Friday

Happy Weekend!!!!!

I have typed and erased a couple different intro paragraphs for this post.  I got nothing.

It is Friday and I am thankful for that.  I'll let the pictures fill in the details of what the girls have been up to...

Favorite Thing #1: Monday
*Meeting Elvis the Blue Cow at Lunds with Boom
*Playing in the sunshine
*Eating broccoli
*Drawing on my Grandpa's old chalkboard

Favorite Thing #2: Getting this picture emailed to me
from Mrs. Lori because Callie wanted me to see her fancy outfit.
Favorite Thing #3: Walking our crazy dog.  In jammies.
And winter boots.

Favorite Thing #4: Getting these pictures at work from Pa:
A sweet face, bulging arm rolls, and a sleepy baby.

Favorite Thing #5: Setting up our new basketball hoop!
Favorite Thing #6: Playing at home and at G-ma's.
Baby much prefers sitting up than laying on her tummy.
She pretty much refuses to even entertain the idea of crawling.

Favorite Thing #7: Celebrating Mother's Day a few days early at the
Listen to Your Mother show.  It showcased 12 local writer/bloggers reading original
pieces about motherhood.  Some were funny, some were heartbreaking, but all were
powerful.

Favorite Thing #8: Friday morning cuddles and smiles from Boom's house

Favorite Thing #9: Teacher Appreciation Week
I picked the wrong week to start my diet/exercise plan.  Every day I had walk
by the table on the left multiple times a day (our students' parents are AMAZING and brought
a ton of food for us every day).  But I stayed strong and just taste tested
a couple of little things each day.

Favorite Thing #10: Friday dinner: avocado, black beans, most some of my enchilada,
etc.  The girl can pound it down.  Anything and everything.
Favorite Thing #11: Enjoying the crisp spring air with G-ma and G-pa at
a place I'd never been to, right in our neighborhood.

Favorite Thing #12: A beautiful evening for a walk

Favorite Thing #13: Ending the walk with some swinging

Have a great weekend!

TBT

Happy Thundery Thursday!

In honor of Mother's Day coming up on Sunday, here I am with my scrunchy faced babies.

The other throwbacks are of puzzled babies sitting and happy babies reading puppy books.

Happy Kona Adoption Anniversary Day!

EIGHT years ago, Chris and I drove to a farm down in Chariton, IA to pick up our little 8 pound boxer puppy.

We had been married exactly 8 months, and were excited to add to our family.

We came home with this little snookums.

Babies raising a "baby."  Seriously.  We were 24.

Little did this little puppy know all the...um...FUN...that she had to look forward to.

Though she is quick to get on my "last nerve," she has been a very loyal and patient family dog and we all love her.

Happy Adoption Day, Kona Hope!

Weekend Wrap-Up

We had a lovely little weekend that went by too fast...as usual.

Highlights:
*Watching Auntie Yoda try on wedding dresses at the condo: Laura ordered 5 dresses from various places to be sent to the condo, so we had a little party Saturday morning to see if any of them could be "the one."  Not to be overshadowed, Callie also brought some dresses to try on simultaneously.

Laura did, in fact, find "the one," so it was a successful morning.  We also played, went on a walk, and even found and ordered our bridesmaids' dresses.  We were on a roll.

*Playing at G-ma and G-pa's house: We stopped by their house after the condo to hang out and go to dinner.  They have a new swing set, which is super fun, especially when next-door-neighbor George comes over to play.

*Usual Sunday stuff: coloring, snuggling, errands, and bubbles in sunshine.

*Charlie's birthday party: SO MUCH FUN at an indoor park we haven't been to before.  All the kids had rosy cheeks by the end.  I'm sure they will be sleeping hard tonight.

*My first Moms on the Run work out: Remember back in January when I posted about our family's New Year's resolutions?  Well my running with strangers has commenced.  And I survived.

Holy sweaty
My introverted self survived and got my butt kicked.  It was actually pretty enjoyable (despite the fact that I was getting my arse handed to me by the coach during interval training) and I think I will look forward to it every week.

Remember when I said that we ordered bridesmaids' dresses?  Yeah I ordered mine in a size that is two sizes smaller than I wear now.  So...I will be running.  Lots and lots of running.  And food tracking.  And more running.  My half marathon training schedule actually starts this week as well, so I'm going to set a mileage goal for myself each week, share it with you here, and report back here (for some accountability).

Sound good?  Thanks for keeping me on track.

This week's goal: 9 miles.  No problem.

And finally, as promised, a couple more pictures from Callie's concert on Thursday night.

I tried to blur out the other kids...the ones who were actually singing. ;)
Have a great week!

Favorite-Things-Phone-Dump Friday

TGIF!

Seriously.

Callie: The girl has been waking up EARLY the past couple of weeks.  So this week we decided to push back her bedtime to 8pm in hopes that we will stop getting the little 6am knock-knock-knock on our door.  Ordinarily the little hand knock would be adorable, but at 6am it is not.  Especially when it is followed by a little energetic tornado entering the room that refuses to cuddle in our bed and only wants to bounce around. The results have been mixed, but last night I taught her that she needs to wait until the first number on her clock is a 7. I put a princes sticker right next to the number and everything.  It worked this morning...we'll see if it continues.

Maya: The girl loves to eat.  Fruits.  Vegetables.  Toast.  Cheese.  Gnocchi.  Quinoa.  Literally ANYTHING we give her.  It is crazy.  And I love to watch her eat because it is adorably hilarious.

So Favorite Thing #1?  1 minute and 15 seconds of Maya eating.

The other thing about Maya is that she still doesn't have much interest in moving around.  She is still content siting and playing.  But tonight I put her on her tummy with some toys just out of her reach, and she actually kinda sorta looked like she might be starting to want to move.

Favorite Thing #2: 1 minute and 19 seconds of babbling and tummy time.

As for my other favorite things...it boils down to the girls this week.

Favorite Thing #3: This CRAZY girl.
Sometimes she has so much energy she has to run laps around our kitchen.
Other times she is calm enough to sit and play.
Her fashion sense is always, um, unique.
And she LOVES being outside.

Favorite Thing #4: This SILLY baby.
She eats vegetables.
Her cheeks go on for days.
She plays like a boss.
She also LOVES being outside.
Favorite Thing #5: This CRAZY/SILLY dog.
She is so patient.
She is so resilient.
She can be so so naughty.
We were reminded yesterday, once again, that Callie is not in any way a natural performer.  She had her preschool spring concert last night, and she did not enjoy being up in front of everyone.  She pretty much hated it.  She put her head down pretty much the entire time.  It was kind of hilarious.  But Maya was excited to watch all the kids.

Favorite Thing #6: Watching our girl stare at the bleachers during the 20 minute concert.

After we got home, though, she was happy to sing me her favorite song from the concert.  Until something kind of silly happened.

Favorite Thing #7: Her singing.

My dad took some pictures at the concert too, but I haven't seen them yet. If there are any other good ones that don't include the top of her head, I'll be sure to share them with you on Sunday.

Have a great weekend!

TBT

I only have 2 throwbacks today...they are the leftovers of the September 2010/April 2014 batch that I made.  Stay tuned for some October 2010/May 2014 ones next week.

Kona leans.  Baby leans.
A lean means "I Love You."

Sweet baby faces.
I'm looking forward to looking in to a month's batch of pictures of Callie at Maya's current age.  Seriously, this month (of baby) and the next few months are my FAVORITE.  I am just trying to soak it all in as much as possible.
