Maya Wee

I took this video last week.

In it you get to see how Callie loves on her sister, which is actually more like manhandling her in her face.  I don't know if that makes sense, but when you see the video, you'll get it.  It kind of reminds me of when we would visit my Grammy in Madison and I'd trap her poor little dog Cookie in a room and try and snuggle her.  I also picked up her front two paws and made her dance with me, but if Callie tries that with Maya I will probably put the kibosh on it.  Until she's a little older at least.

Don't you just love how she calls her "Maya Wee"?  It makes me smile every time.

Cutting QOTD

This week at preschool they are learning to cut with scissors.  I bought Callie a pair of little scissors at Target today because her teacher said it would be good for them to practice at home.  The following conversation happened after preschool today.

Me: I hear you are learning how to cut with scissors!
Callie: Yep.  Two fingers go on the bottom and one finger on the top.
Me: Guess what?  I got you your own scissors today at Target so you can practice cutting at home.
Callie: Okay!
Me: What would you like to cut?
Callie: (pauses to think about it) Kona's hair!

I suppose asking what she'd like to cut was a dumb question when I would be the one providing the PAPER she would be cutting.

Also, I'm assuming that they are not teaching veterinary grooming skills at preschool, and that she was just thinking outside the box on this one.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Hey all-

Sorry, I have to take a minute to talk about poop.

We are in the throes of a 2+ hour baby screaming fit.  I don't know what it is about our girls and pooping, but their pooping habits really like to drive us crazy.  Maya is a very irregular pooper it seems.  We maybe get to change a poop once every 3 days if we are lucky.  I would LOVE to change huge disgusting blow-outs at this point, because she just gets PISSED when she hasn't pooped for awhile and it is miserable for all of us.

Anyway...the rest of the weekend was good (except for the fact that Callie caught a cold and was quite the diva at times...2 days into preschool and the germs have already made themselves known).

Saturday

I love mornings right around 8am when we are all awake and Maya is (usually) happy.  Both mornings this weekend were like that.  Here she is on Saturday morning:

It was a beautiful day so we spent the morning outside.  We had all the fixings for a good time- bubbles, chalk, and some hand-picked flowers.

Callie had a sleepover at G-ma and G-pa's house on Saturday night.  It was great for her- she needed some one-on-one attention.  Thanks G-ma and G-pa!

While she was gone, we went out for dinner with Brent and Bethany, and then Chris, Maya and I went to the Lynx game!  It was my first game since before she was born and it was great to be back.  All of the people who sit around us were excited to see the baby and loved her name (there is a Maya on the Lynx team- #23 Maya Moore and she is AWESOME) and her homemade Lynx shirt.  Our Maya got to hang out on the court at halftime a little bit with Boom and Bops too.

Sunday

Chris and Cal went to Sunday school, and other than that it was football and a grocery shopping trip.  Exciting day.

Fall football
Baby update: I took a break in the middle of this post to rock a screaming baby.  She calmed down and is now *knock on wood* quietly sleeping on Chris' chest.  Time for a glass of wine can of sparkling water and some netflix.

Hope everyone has a great week!

Favorite-Things-Phone-Dump Friday

Today wasn't the best day (though we did have fun with Boom downtown this morning!)

Favorite Thing #1: Boom and Bops are back!  We get to
hang out downtown again!
The rest of the day was pretty brutal, and I am in an interesting head space to do my "Favorite Things" post.  So I'm going to do something a little different.  I'm going to VENT, but I'm going to incorporate my favorite things in the process.  We'll see how it goes.

First off, I am aware that I really have no right to be a complainer.  I mean, look at who I get to hang out with all day every day.  But it's my blog, and I'll vent if I want to.  Vent if I want to.  Vent if I want to.

Favorite Thing #2: These two cuties
I mean, seriously.  THIS FACE???

Favorite Thing #3: THIS FACE
The issue with this happy baby face is that we don't see it very often.  She was a SCREAMY girl the first part of the week, though it got better after a couple of Dr. Stewart appointments towards the end of the week.  So while I love to soak up the awake, alert NON-screamy baby, a lot of my time deals with the opposite of that.  And it can be draining.

And then there is THIS GIRL.

Favorite Thing #4: HER
She can almost simultaneously make me laugh and make me irate on a daily hourly basis.  In one short lunch time she can completely ignore and defy everything I say, and then drink her water with a coffee lid on it and tell me she is drinking a "vanilla latte."  I mean, really.  I can't help but laugh sometimes...even when I'm beyond frustrated.  (And I obviously go through the Caribou drive through daily too often).

Because of last week's no nap debacle (and subsequent MASSIVE MELTDOWN on Sunday after a week of no naps), I put my foot down this week (every day but yesterday), and we had nap time.  But for that to happen, I had to COMPLETELY EXHAUST her each morning.  Which in turn, COMPLETELY EXHAUSTED me.  Thankfully, preschool on Monday and Wednesday did that for me.  As for the rest of the week, we did have fun.

Favorite Thing #5: Lake Harriet

Favorite Thing #6: Roller Skating (in and out of the tree)
I think what is happening at this point is I'm learning why it is important for me to be a working mom.  I feel incredibly lucky and blessed to have this long chunk of time to spend with my girls, but by the end of every day I am looking forward to getting a break from them.  Callie is at the point of life right now where she is so curious, wants to test her boundaries, is a little clumsy, and is dealing with sharing her mom with a baby.  All of that has led to some tough battles and short tempers and lack of patience and tears.  For both of us.  Maya is itty bitty and it is hard for me to not be able to spend as much one-on-one time with her and cater to her every need like I was able to do with her big sister.  I have to split myself, my priorities and my patience, and some days are easier than others.

Thankfully, we have an amazing support system to step in when we need them too.

Favorite Thing #7: FAMILY
Not pictured: G-ma, G-pa and Uncle Dan

As hard as it will be to leave the girls and head back to work at the end of October, I know that when I'm working I will miss them like crazy and will be so excited to see them at the end of the day.  I'll get the balance I need to be the kind of mom I need and want to be for both of them.

Anyway, I don't know what else to say besides I'm done whining.  Sorry you had to endure that, but I hope you enjoyed the pictures.

And TGIF.  Tomorrow is a new day- SATURDAY!- and it will be better.

Throwback Thursday

This week's throwback comes complete with throwback VIDEOS!  Fun!

First off, the pictures.

Reading our favorite baby book "Button Nose."

Kisses from Mommy
I went WAY back in my Vimeo videos and found a goldmine of Baby Callie starting when she was about 4 weeks old.

I realize that babies don't do much so if you think you might get bored by a couple minutes of cute baby faces, limb flails, and an occasional coo, feel free to skip the video section.  If that sounds like a good time, read and watch on.

Here is one from when Callie was 7 weeks old.  I apologize in advance for my obnoxious baby voice.

And now here is Maya at 7 weeks old. My baby voice is only slightly less obnoxious.

I found that if your screen is big enough you can play the videos AT THE SAME TIME to get the true Throwback experience. But then you'd have to listen to double my obnoxious baby voice at the same time so that might be too much for your ears to handle.  So if you decide to do that, I'd recommend the mute button. :)

Happy Birthday Boom!

We love you!  Have a great day!
