Lunch Buddy

I started my lunch buddy volunteering at Kati's school today. For those of you who do not know, the program is a weekly volunteer job where you have lunch and go to recess with the same kid every week. For the past few years I have had the same lunch buddy, Arnold. At the end of last year I got to the point where it was not fun anymore to be Arnold's lunch buddy so this year I chose to sign up for a different buddy. Kati suggested another one of her students, Alejandro, who is in 3rd grade, and is still a bit of a handful but at least he talks and asks questions. Today at lunch it was really loud and Alejandro is a very quiet talker so I had a hard time hearing what he was asking me. I had to have him repeat what he said multiple times, and if asking the same question over the 15 minute lunch period wasn't enough, having him repeat himself felt like he asked me the same question 50 times. I think I had to tell him my favorite color at least 10 times.
Anyway, I think one of the first topics that we ended up talking about was him asking if I had any kids. I proceeded to tell him that I did not have any kids, yet. He knew that I was Mrs. Gosselin's husband, but could not connect the dots. So when I asked him if he knew that Mrs. Gosselin was pregnant he answered very enthusiastically YES. Then a confused look came over his face and he looked at me very serious and said "Who told you that she is pregnant"?, implying that someone must have told me. Many answers ran through my head on what to say. Uh maybe because I did that to her? But we were in a school and there are rules for lunch buddies, so I told him that I was going to be the dad, and reminded him that Mrs. Gosselin and I are married. I am not sure if he entirely got what I was telling him, so I am sure the rest of the year should be pretty interesting. Luckily the conversation quickly moved onto what our favorite food is.

Glucose, Target and OCTOBER???

I went and did my glucose test yesterday. It was a little irritating as I had to leave work early to go drink sugar water and sit for an hour. But it is done. I assume I'll hear from them if there is a problem.

And it is October on Thursday??? How did that happen? I like to do mental calendar math a lot to gauge how time is moving. So the other day I figured out that it is the same amount of time from now back to when I was in Colorado at the end of June as it is from now until the baby is born. And Colorado doesn't seem that long ago!

I keep getting comments from people on how huge they think the baby is going to be (based on how big my belly is now). Do I really look that big? I don't feel like I'm extraordinarily huge... the baby is just growing fast! :)

We went to register and Target on Sunday and were not too impressed. They don't have a whole lot of stuff (compared to Babies R Us, which is probably an unfair comparison) and it took them forever to figure out the registering gun for us. But we did it. I'm sure we'll have to add stuff because I have no idea if we have all of our bases covered. We tried to be somewhat methodical by using the list that Babies R Us gave us, but there is a TON of stuff on that list that they claim all new parents HAVE to have...and I'm a little skeptical. So we'll see. We didn't register for everything on the list. And we were still pretty random since we both have NO idea.

Work is ramping up so I usually am up early stressing about various things. But it is kind of nice to get out of bed with a little time to putz around on the computer and relax before having to get ready for the day. Already this Tuesday is off to a better start than last Tuesday, when I couldn't breathe out of my nose and was miserable. :)

Vikings/Weddings

Well the Vikings are now 3-0. Hopefully they can keep up the win streak. Yesterday we went down to Lanesboro, MN for Sarah and Nathan's wedding. Nathan is Big Dave's younger, better looking brother. The wedding was awesome! They got married in Bethlehem Lutheran Church (a good start, just like us), and then they had the reception in this old barn. It was a very cool atmosphere, and the majority of the food was grown from the organic farm Nathan and Sarah work at. All in all it was a great wedding and we had a lot of fun seeing the Wicks and Hyndman families. And one last thing. My golf game is finally taking a turn for the better. I posted a good score this morning, but could have definitely shot lower (I had 7 birdie putts today, but couldn't convert). For those of you who have played with me in the last month, you know how good my putting has been. It was a frustrating day on the greens.

Confusing Messages

Sometimes people say things and different people interpret it a different way. Let's say for instance I say that a catch a football player made was sick. Some would take it to mean that the play was awesome, and others would take it as the play was gross. You see what I am saying. Any need for further explanation? Good. So I have been noticing lately that sometimes The same saying can make a difference between a couple, and a soon to be family.

When Kati says that she is excited for bed, that statement meant something different 6 months ago.

When Kati says I need to take my bra off, that statement meant something different 6 months ago.

When Kati says "Pick up your clothes, clean the dishes, vacuum the basement..." Wait that's still the same as it was 6 months ago.

You can see how some of these messages can be very confusing to me. But I am slowly converting my mind into being a responsible adult :)

Cauliflower

Week 27 info:

This week, your baby weighs almost 2 pounds (like a head of cauliflower) and is about 14 1/2 inches long with her legs extended. She's sleeping and waking at regular intervals, opening and closing her eyes, and perhaps even sucking her fingers. With more brain tissue developing, your baby's brain is very active now. While her lungs are still immature, they would be capable of functioning — with a lot of medical help — if she were to be born now. Chalk up any tiny rhythmic movements you may be feeling to a case of baby hiccups, which may be common from now on. Each episode usually lasts only a few moments, and they don't bother her, so just relax and enjoy the tickle.
We had a doctor's appointment today. I didn't do the glucose test today, but need to go in early next week to do it. Baby Goose was moving around a lot today so we were able to hear her movements along with the heartbeat. The doctor thought she might have had the hiccups, too. We're now at the stage where we go to the doctor every 2 weeks instead of every 4 weeks. It is hard to believe there is only 13 weeks left!

Here is a picture that was taken of us last weekend at a family friend's wedding. Just thought I'd post it for those who don't see us very often to see the baby bump- though I'm wearing a black dress that is slimming...haha. Not really! We actually have 2 more weddings to go to in the next couple of weeks. It will be a busy fall.We just booked a long weekend to Chicago for the middle of October when I have a day off of school. My sister Laura lives there and I'm excited to be able to visit her and her boyfriend Drew one more time before the baby comes! It will be a nice little getaway. We're flying there-thankfully my doc said it was just fine.

I'm almost back to normal- still stuff in my nose but it is livable. I'm glad to have the weekend to relax a little!
