Happy Birthday Kona Hope!

March is a crazy birthday month...Kona is next!

She is 7 today!  Happy Birthday to our dearest doggy.

Pa, Callie, Lami and Kona had a party today, party hats and all.

Some were more excited about the hats than others.

Weekend Wrap-Up

First off, happy birthday Grammy!!!  We love you!!!

On to the weekend...I did a terrible job of taking pictures.  But not because we didn't do anything fun... because I just forgot.  Seriously, preggo brain is ridiculous sometimes.

Saturday
My high school friend Emily came over with her 8-month-old daughter Vera.  We played at our house and then went out for lunch.  Callie had fun showing Vera her dress-up clothes, and even dressed Vera up in the purple princess skirt!

That evening we had a play date and dinner with Josh, Alison and Baby Avery but I didn't take pictures.  Bummer!

Sunday
Despite our toddler waking up with (YET ANOTHER) stuffy nose, we still went to Sunday school.  She wore her new VERY fluorescent pink and gray dress.   The picture doesn't do the fluorescence justice.  It is awesome.

And then later I fought (and won) a daylight-savings related nap battle.

We went to G-ma and G-pa's house for dinner with them, Auntie Cat and Uncle Dan.  She took the doggies for a walk too.

Now we're fighting a daylight-savings related bed time battle and not happy about it.  But it is what it is.

I really can't believe that it is almost the middle of March.  Hamsie is 21 weeks along and she is about the length of a carrot.  I did some mental calendar math in my head today and came to the conclusion that it is CRAZY that we are more than halfway through the pregnancy, that spring is just upon us which means summer will be after that, and that I feel huge already even though there are still 4 months to go.  It is a so close but so far kind of situation.

Hope everyone had a great weekend!

The Art of Nap Avoidance QOTD

I am totally getting played right now and I know it.  Between the cold she developed the past 24-hours and her newfound ability to ask for things when going to sleep, I'M. GETTING. PLAYED.

The following is a play-by-play of nap time shenanigans today.  Most of our conversations were through the monitor, though I went up and down our two flights of steps about a half dozen times as well.  Enjoy.

1:00pm
Nap time.  Get into pull-up and jammies (yes, our toddler wears her jammies for nap time at our house).  Read book.  Sing 3 songs.

1:07pm- Through the monitor
Callie: Mommy, my nose is running!
Me: Use your blankie and go to sleep.
Callie: I can't use my blankie.  I need a Kleenex.
Me: It is right by your bed.
Callie: Mommy, MY NOSE IS RUNNING!

I sigh and go upstairs to wipe her nose.

Callie: I'm thirsty!
Me: It is time for sleepies.
Callie: But I'm really thirsty!
Me: You need to lay down. I'll bring you your juice.
Callie: Okay.

I go down two flights of stairs to get the juice and then go back up.

Callie: (Drinks juice)
Me: Time for sleepies.

1:15pm- Through the monitor
Callie: (Sits up) Mommy, I'm hungry!
Me: Lay down and go to sleep.
Callie: But I'm hungry!
Me: It is time for sleepies.  Go to sleep.
Callie: (Gets out of bed) But I'm hungry!
Me: (Decide to ignore)

1:30pm
Callie: (Claps hands, moves legs up and down, continues to talk about being hungry)

1:40pm- Through the monitor
Callie: Mommy, I'm still hungry!
Me: LAY DOWN AND GO TO SLEEP.
Callie: But I'm hungry!
Me: (totally know I'm getting played) Lay down and be quiet and I'll bring you a small snack.
Callie: Okay. (lays down)

Me: (bring up a wheat thin and three raisins)  Here is a cracker and three raisins.  You need to eat these and go to sleep.
Callie: But I want them in a bowl.
Me: I don't have a bowl.  Eat them now or I'm going to take them downstairs.
Callie: (eats and then lays down)
Me: GO TO SLEEP.

1:47pm- Through the monitor
Callie: (sits up) MOMMY! I forgot to watch Bubble Guppies!
Me: LAY DOWN AND GO TO SLEEP. RIGHT NOW.
Callie: BUT I FORGOT TO WATCH BUBBLE GUPPIES!
Me: (ignore...ignore...ignore)
Callie: (keeps talking and moving and clapping and being obnoxious)

1:53- Through the monitor
Callie: I'm thirsty!
Me: (as stern as I can) YOU NEED TO LAY DOWN RIGHT NOW AND GO TO SLEEP.
Callie: DON'T SAY MEAN THINGS TO ME!
Me: (ignore)
Callie: I'm thirsty!
Me: (ignore)

2:05
Callie: (lays back down...creepy raccoon eyes stare at the monitor hardly blinking)

2:12
Callie: (eyes closed...knock on wood)

2:15
Okay.  I think I won.

I have a serious fear of losing nap time.  Most of her friends have already dropped their nap times, but I'm so not ready to let it go yet.  I'm hoping this is just a product of daylight savings time messing with her internal clock and her stuffy nose.

Laughing and Nicknames QOTDs

I have two QOTDs that are not really related but kind of.

First off, lately Callie gets SUPER DUPER MAD when people laugh, no matter what they are laughing at.  She always thinks that people are laughing at her, even when they clearly are not.

When someone in her vicinity laughs, the diva attitude comes out.
Callie: (with a VERY angry face and voice) STOP LAUGHING AT ME.  I don't like it when you laugh at me! (and then tears usually follow)

It is getting ridiculous but every time it happens we calmly explain that it is okay for people to laugh, and that if people are laughing at her it is only because she is so cute.  So far it hasn't made much of an impact, but hopefully it will sink in soon and we can resume laughter in our house.

Secondly, Callie has become accustomed to shortening some names when talking about animals or people.  For example, Kona has become "Kones", Lami has become "Lams", and now she has started saying "Hams" for Hamsie.

It was all well and good until today, when she was talking to her stuffed animals.

When trying to bring Boo-Boo Bear over to us today, she tripped over something and fell.
Callie: (taking to Boo-Boo) Whoa, Boobs!  I just fell down!

I had to completely hide my face and laugh in silence and Chris managed stayed very calm and stone faced. I don't think she suspected that we were laughing at her.

But every time I think about it I can't stop giggling.  So now I'm just waiting to get yelled at by my own toddler.

Poor Daddy...

...he is going to be SO outnumbered now!!!!

Yes- we can finally confirm that Hamsie is indeed a girl! She is about 15 ounces, has a very good heart, and everything looks great!

Hamsie- 20 weeks 3 days
Thanks for all the excitement and positivity the past couple of days! We're thrilled to add another little girl to our family. And as someone who has two amazing sisters, I'm can't wait to watch my two little ones develop their very own special sister relationship. :)
