A Picture Update

Happy Friday!

We made it to the weekend, folks.

That's all I'm going to say. :)

Here is Maya during the week:

The sunrays were awesome one of the past few mornings (I don't remember which one and am too lazy to look it up):

It was nice yesterday, so we spent some time outside and went to the park.

And video:

They can be SO DARN CUTE when they want to be. And Callie's reading is on point.

And then Snapchat!

Tonight was rainy, but they had fun running and splashing in puddles as usual.

Have a great weekend!

Gratitude and (a lot of) Perspective

Sometimes life gives you opportunities to take a gander at your life and get a little perspective.

Remember how I was so whiny yesterday about 3-year-olds?  Yeah. That. I don't need to whine about that anymore.

Sometimes, in my job, I find myself working with students (and their families) who may be in crisis. A lot of times the crisis is due to some sort of mental health issue.

I love my job, but some days are tough.

When I picked Callie up today, she was outside on the playground. They called for her to come in on the walkie-talkie and I got to watch her through the glass doors as she came in to get her stuff.  She was so happy and carefree, bounding and skipping up to the school building.  And it made me tear up.

Because I'm so grateful (as much as I might complain or vent) for this stage of life we are in right now.  We still have so much control and power when it comes to our girls' health, well-being, and safety.

I see first hand the effects of when that is no longer the case, and it is hard.

So today, I feel gratitude for having these two little ones in my care.  It might feel exhausting and aggravating at times, but I'll take it.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Holy moly we have had a busy weekend!

And you guys.  Three-year-olds.  I feel like I'm constantly being bossed around by a tiny, jerky, and ridiculously high-pitched dictator.

It's a good thing she's cute.

Yesterday Chris had to work the local parade, so the girls and I went too.  We ended up using the park and ride system, so Maya got to ride on a school bus for the first time!  It was very exciting.  The girls had fun getting candy from all the different floats.  We cheered loud for Callie's school float, which included her nemesis, THE WASHBURN BEAR.

Callie has always hated, and continues to hate, any and all mascots.

After the parade, we headed to dance class.  Maya participated for a bit, but then was CRAZY so Chris took her to see animals at Petco.

After dance we headed downtown to Boom's new condo!  It is still a work in progress, but here are some inital pictures.  If you have been to (or seen pictures of) her old condo, you might notice it has some similarities.  It does, but it is also different enough to feel new.

The top picture is actually her old condo all empty.  The girls had a blast running around, and were doing so while I was taking the panoramic shot.  That is why it looks like there are lots of them.

In the new place, there is a little room attached to the second bedroom which is now the toy room. Super fun!  As you can see, the view is pretty awesome and everything is bright with all the windows.

The girls had fun out on the deck.  From the deck you can see the old condo, including the Gold Medal Flour building, which house two pigeons, Poopy and Doopy, that the girls always looked for at the old place. Hopefully they'll see them every once in awhile from the new deck.

This morning was relaxed.  Maya and I took a trip to Target, and we went for a walk.  As you can see, the girls' fashion is quite something today.  Thankfully, Callie changed out of the Christmas footie jammies before church.

Remember what I said about three-year-olds at the beginning of this post?  Maya was supposed to go to church too, but never made it.  Why, you ask?  Because she got it into her head that she wanted to wear her flower girl dress from AUNTIE YODA's wedding (circa February 2015, when she was 1.5 years old).  She insisted on putting the dress on and zipping the back zipper BY HERSELF.  And then, for obvious reasons, she couldn't.  And then she TANTRUMMED LIKE THE WORLD WAS ENDING.  And then Chris and Callie had to leave without her.

Three-year-olds are the BEST people to teach you patience.  And I was taught a lesson today.

So she had "quiet time" instead of nap time and then we had to get out of the house for a change of pace.  So we headed to a local open streets festival, PennFest, and wandered around and got mini-donuts.

We also worked on our house a bit, as we inherited a new rug and round table from my mom.

We had cereal for dinner.  That's how awesome life was by 5pm.  To halt the screaming, there was...what else...SNAPCHAT.

And then Callie had to get in on the action.

I must have blocked out the difficulty of transitioning a three-year-old from nap time to no nap time. Though Callie was a good 5 or 6 months older than Maya is now before she dropped her naps.  So I hope this phase goes rather quickly.  We put her to bed about 6:40pm and she was out cold by 6:50...so she was a TIRED LITTLE CHICA.

Have a great week!

A Picture Update

Hey all. It's been another something of a week. The girls were both sick with colds, but Maya had it the worst. There was no sleeping through the night any night this week and I was reminded of her terrible sleeping patterns as a baby. That, plus her newfound ability to get out of her big girl bed myriad times at bedtime for various ridiculous reasons. It all made for long days and long nights!

It is a full moon week. Next week will be better.

On to the pictures.

The girls hanging out with G-ma and Pa:

Callie had an audiology appointment due to some inconsistent hearing tests at her pediatrician the past few months, but she checked out fine. Her treat for after the appointment was Dots, "because Bops liked Dots!"

And of course Snapchat!

Chris and I were so tired by 6pm last night. The girls were running around our house and we were like this:

Last night's sunset was very colorful and quick changing.

Tonight ends a couple months long process of my mom considering moving, looking for a new place, closing and actually moving to a new condo a couple blocks down from her old one. It has been a challenging process, but ultimately one that we hope will help us all with continued healing and moving forward after losing my dad.

She's got a pretty cool new view, don't ya think?

Have a great weekend.

Weekend Wrap-Up: The Happy Birthday Boom Edition!!

First up- it is Boom's birthday today!!!!!

We were lucky enough to spend a good chunk of the day with her. More on that later.

Yesterday we stopped by G-ma and Pa's house and the girls played. Then Cal had her first dance class of the year. And that was about it for photographic moments.

So back to Boom's birthday. We started the day by participating in a Lynx 5K! Great Margie is here this weekend, so she joined us too. Prowl said hi to us a few times, and Callie refused to come
out of the car because she still hates mascots.

We hung out at the condo for most of the day. Unfortunately, I was knocked out pretty hard by a bad head cold. But we did some birthday celebrating and went for a walk outside.

Happy birthday Mom, we love you!

And lastly, a shout out to our friends Brent and Bethany, who welcomed Baby Weston on Friday!!
