Weekend Wrap-Up

Happy Sunday.

My parents got married 40 years ago today.  June 12th, 1976.

June is a tough month with all the dad-related dates.  Sigh.

My mom, Laura, Craig and I went out to dinner.  It was nice to be together.

Besides that, the other focus of our weekend was...

POTTY TRAINING.

BOOOOOOOO. HISSSSSSSS.

Actually, it hasn't been that bad so far.  There was some initial screaming as the reality sunk in for her, but she has been pretty easy going about going on the potty.  As to be expected, we have gone through lots of undies because of accidents.  But she has gotten a lot of stickers on her potty chart as well.

So yesterday we felt fairly chained to the house, but got out on walks as we could.

We did get out last evening, when we met Auntie Cat, G-ma and Pa for a SUMMER ADVENTURE CHALLENGE.  Auntie Cat sent Cal a letter a few weeks ago inviting her to the challenge, and she set up a bunch of different contests and fun things for us to do!  Including: hill rolling, dancing, trivia, wheel-barrowing, frisbee throwing, food tasting, spelling, water balloon throwing, and more!  It was SO FUN.  And HOT.

Thanks Auntie Cat!  And thanks G-ma and Pa for helping us out.

Today was a morning run, more potty training adventures, outside time as well as brunch at the Held's house.

This afternoon Callie set up a juice box shop and actually had 2 paying customers! It helped that there was an open house going on a couple doors down. Her initial price for a juice box was 4 cents, but the first customer paid her 50 cents, and she was elated.

This week Cal has VBS and we will continue Maya's potty training adventure.

Have a great one!

A Picture Update

I am officially on summer vacation after my TWELFTH year of teaching.

So it is another transition time, and that is always a little weird. I feel good and anxious and relieved and nervous and happy and weird.

And to add to the anxious feelings, we are starting POTTY TRAINING tomorrow.

I think I went a little overboard at Target.

If you are a long time follower, you may remember that potty training was
H-E-double hockey sticks with Callie.

I'm hoping Maya is super easy to balance them out. I'll keep you posted.

This week the girls got to hang out with Boom, G-ma, Pa and Auntie Cat. They were so busy and had a blast!

Maya was HILARIOUS this week eating mashed potatoes.  They are her new favorite food, apparently, and she said the words "mashed potatoes" about 1700 times while eating them.

One night this week we walked to the hardware store and the girls got suckers.

And I got these sunrays last night, on the last night of my TWELFTH year of teaching.

Just had to say that again. Crazy.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Happy Sunday!

Holy moly I have one more week until summer.

This weekend felt like summer and it was lovely.

Check out those sunrays trying to peek out from the clouds.  The sunrays are pretty much the only things that get me out running in the mornings.  My motivation is low these days...I hope that it picks up once I am on summer vacation!

Saturday morning was fun because we had a bridal shower for our cousin Emily, who is getting married this August!  It was a green and gold themed brunch, and everyone had a great time.

After nap time Chris brought the girls down and we had fun hanging out at the condo.  Chris made Cal a scavenger hunt, and Auntie Yoday and Cal played a homemade "Scattergories" game.  Cal LOVES word games and puzzles and things that she has to figure out.  Such a smartie!

On Sunday morning we all went to church for the last week of Sunday school.  Afterward there was an "Open Streets" festival that included hot dogs and a petting zoo.

This afternoon G-ma and Pa took the girls on some beautiful outdoor adventures.

And tonight, summer jammies vibes.

Have a great week!  I'm hoping that later this week I'll be able to do another wedding picture post with the pictures my aunt Mary took!  I have to get them from Mari and then I will share them with you.

A Picture Update

Happy Friday!

What. A. Week.

The most important thing about this week was that it was Callie's LAST WEEK OF KINDERGARTEN.

Mind-boggling
On Tuesday she won an award during the whole school awards ceremony.  She was the only one in her class to receive this award.

She wouldn't let me take her picture with the award at school...we had to wait until we got into the car.
Moms are SO uncool.
Tonight she wrote in (what used to be) my gratitude journal.

"I am thankful for the last day of kindergarten but I am sad."
I am grateful for her teacher and other staff at her school that helped her have such a great year.  She learned so much and grew so much this year.  And that's all I can say about it.  *wiping away tears*

Maya was busy this week, as usual, even getting lunch at Auntie Cat's house.

We went to the park on a nice evening.

And the girls showed their birth season after bath time.  Callie (my winter baby) always HAS to put on footie jammies (no matter that it was almost 80 degrees outside) and Maya (my summer baby) always HAS to have no clothes on.

The scarf and sunglasses were an added bonus on this night.  After donning them, she quickly asked,
"Who wants my autograph?"
The sun was pretty cool this week.

And I found this quote and post on Elizabeth Gilbert's facebook page today.  She is a very wise author, and someone who always posts inspiring things.

These are wise words to live by, and ones I need going into the last week of school next week.  It has been a long month, and I am looking forward to light, warmth, and relaxation.

Er, as much relaxation as staying home with a 6-year-old and almost 3-year-old can bring me.

Have a great weekend.

Bops' Birthday

My dad would have been 61 today.

The past month I have looked more closely at my Timehop app, especially the pictures of my dad that have come up. Instead of quickly scrolling through them and barely looking, I have paused, looked, and saved them.

I think that shows healing.

And what I feel most is gratitude.

Here are four of my favorites.

The one thing I noticed is that there are so many more pictures of Bops with Callie, as to be expected.  I hope that by the time Father's Day comes along, I'll have some pictures saved of him and Maya to share as well.

Happy birthday Dad. Love you and miss you.
