Happy Friday!

It was a big week.  Callie started year two of preschool.  We met with her new teacher and saw her new classroom.  It is hard to believe that a year from now is kindergarten.  Last year's first day of preschool really doesn't seem that long ago.  Eeeeeeeek!

Maya is cruising up and downstairs constantly and finally letting us help her walk more.  Maybe it won't be long now until she makes the leap to doing it on her own.  She definitely has her own timetable for when she wants to do things, and I'm learning to be okay with that. :)

Artwork by Callie- Part 2

Back in April I posted a series of artwork by Callie.

When she was sick last Friday, one of the activities that she did to keep her body calm was to draw some pictures.

Here they are, with her own explanations.

Weekend Wrap-Up: The Labor Day Edition

Happy Labor Day!  We had a fun weekend doing some of the usual labor day stuff.

Saturday
Originally we had planned to meet my family out at the State Fair on Saturday. But since Callie was still nursing a fever, Chris ended up staying home with both girls while I went to the fair.  It was the first time I had been to the fair without a kid in about 5 years, so it was kind of awesome.  There was record attendance at the fair that day, so it would have been a nightmare having them there and trying to navigate a stroller through the masses of hot sweaty bodies that were EVERYWHERE.  So it ended up working out pretty well.

The highlight of the fair (for me) was THE SKYSCRAPER.  My dad went on this ride a week ago, so Laura and I decided that we could do it too.  It is a ride that goes 365 feet up the air and goes around and around at 70 miles per hour. 

It. Was. AWESOME.

And, of course, there is video evidence.  I posted this on facebook on Saturday night, but here it is again.  I think I have watched it about 12 times because it was just so much fun.  Laura was slightly less enthused than I was at the minute thirty we spent at the top not knowing exactly when we'd be launched back down.

I'd do it again in a heartbeat.  Dad, maybe you and me next year? :)

While it was nice not worrying about the girls at the fair this year, I did miss doing all the kid things we have done the past few years.  I look forward to having them with us next year.

On Saturday evening I took the girls to the park for a little bit.  It is always fun to see how much braver they get each time we go. 

This time Callie took a crack at pushing Maya on the swing.  It was adorable.

Sunday
We got the sweatshirts out on Sunday morning for a long wagon ride.  We also did some playing at home, playing at G-ma and G-pa's house, and dinner at Davanni's. 

Poor Maya, she's not going to know that pizza actually has cheese on it for awhile.  She always has to eat Callie's gluten-free pepperoni pizza with NO cheese because it is $13 and Callie never eats it all.
Thankfully she doesn't seem to mind.

The highlight of Sunday was the Lynx playoff game we went to that afternoon.  It was a do-or-die game for them- if they didn't win, their season would be done.  THANKFULLY, after being down most of the game, the clawed their way past Phoenix and ended up winning in the last few minutes.  It was one of the best and most stressful games I have ever been to.  It was awesome to have seen it in person.  They play in Phoenix tomorrow night, and whoever wins that game goes on to the WNBA championship.

Monday
Today was pretty chill.  We ran errands.  We played at home.  We got out the pool for probably the last time of the season.  We went on a walk and had dinner with Uncle Dan and Hanna. 

Maya's hair- it is getting epic.

Maya is turning into a little fish.  I mentioned awhile ago that she is a crazy person in the bathtub.  This video shows a little bit of what she does...just imagine a slippery naked baby body in a hard porcelain (?) bathtub flailing around 10 times more than this and you can see what we deal with during every bath.

Lastly, I have decided to (once again) do Cincuenta September (I did it in 2012 too). 

After all my half marathon training, I only ran 3 times in August.  So...I made myself a new chart, and am committing to run 50 miles this month.

I'm running a 10K at the end of the month, so I will be training for that at the same time.

Happy Long Weekend!

This was a bit of a crazy week, as it started with 2 girls with runny noses and ended with the older one having a fever.  It actually started last night, but thank goodness for kids Tylenol.  It was able to kick the fever each time so she seemed to feel ok (i.e. CRAZY), but only for the 6 hours and then it would come back again.  Hopefully she'll be able to sleep it off tonight.

So the fun fact about Callie today is that she is still a crazy little monkey even when she is sick.  Because she was still wanting to run around and be all over the place today, she got to watch a lot of stuff so that she'd stay in one place.  I'll be curious now how often she gets "sick" and "needs" to stay home and watch TV.  Ha. 

The fun fact about Maya from this week is she is a crazy little monkey in the bath tub.  The girl has no fear of the water and just flings herself around in there.  If Target sold a straight jacket for one-year-olds to wear in the bathtub I'd totally buy it.  I have to hold her in place otherwise she'll flail her body and either slam her head into the side of the tub or land face first in the water.  It makes for a very interesting bath experience, to say the least.  And she finds herself to be absolutely HILARIOUS.

Throwbacks are usually my favorite posts each week because I love comparing the babies (in a completely non-judgmental and healthy way, I hope). But now since I'm working full time again, Thursdays mean that tomorrow is Friday.  And that is awesome.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Gosh DANG it.  Weekends go by way too quickly when you have to actually work for a living.  We had a fun one- which makes it go by even faster.

Saturday

Our latest tradition seems to be a girls' trip to Target right when it opens on Saturday mornings.  It is not crowded and I can get myself a latte at Starbucks.

One for two for listening when I say "say cheese".  Not bad.

Then we drove past a garage sale that happened to have a sweet doll house like the one that G-ma and G-pa have (probably had its prime circa 1990, but awesome nonetheless).  So we got it and it provided lots of entertainment for both girls throughout the weekend, but especially Callie. 

It is hilarious to (stealthily) observe her imaginative play.  I say stealthily because, if she catches you watching her, you will be scolded.

Later that afternoon we headed over to the condo for a LYNX playoff party.  We had dinner and watched the Lynx game and mostly chased children around.  Maya even got a ride in Gi-Gi's "truck."

It was a party with Boom, Bops, Auntie Mari, her two room mates Kelsey and Lauren,
my Aunt Coco and Uncle Jim, and Gi-Gi.  Whew!

Sunday

The morning started out with a little naked play time.

Sometimes playing is just better done in the (almost) buff.

Later that morning we headed out for an organized walk in memory of our friend Alison's mom, Deb.  We walked three miles and all the girls did great in their respective vehicles.  It was hot and sticky, but a great start to the day and a wonderful way to honor Deb's memory.

We spend the afternoon at home, and even went outside a little bit despite the fact that it was SO hot and humid. 

Poor Callie and her stinking nose.  It has been 2 days and it is already red
and chapped and non-stop runny.  And guess which little one-year-old's nose
started dripping like a faucet today?  Hooray for double nose colds!

Tonight I took the girls over to hang out with the Wicks' kids and Josh, Alison and Avery.  It was fun to see the five girls all running around crazy together!  We did manage to get them all lined up on the couch for a minute to get a picture.

We found out this week that Avery is going to be a big sister.  So exciting!

The end of the weekend has me feeling thankful.  Tomorrow is the 3rd anniversary of the serious car accident that Chris, Dave, Nik and Nate were in out in Washington in 2011.  We're all grateful that everyone is doing pretty well now, though I know it is still something that impacts them all every day.
