Weekend Wrap-Up

I have had a LOT of time with my girls one-on-one this weekend.  I have actually been single mom-ing it since Thursday, as Chris is out of town at our friend Nate's wedding.  He was in the wedding (tonight) and looked very dapper.  Along with Big Dave.

So I have been flying solo (with some help, obviously, from the grandparents and aunties).  But the early morning and bed time stuff has been all me...and the in and out of cars and shuttling around and errands and house stuff, etc...me.

I'm tired.  And thankful that it is a limited time experience.

Luckily, the girls have been pretty fantastic.  I was worried after Callie's MAJOR attitude last week, but she chilled out and has been pleasant to be around again.  Phew.

As for the weekend...it was busy.  On purpose.

Saturday

*We played at home and ran errands.  Then I took Cal to dance class while Maya slept at Boom and Bops' place.

 *Then we hung out over there for awhile after dance.  Both girls were interested in a little bench.  It was something my maternal grandfather (Grampy) gave me when I was a little younger than Maya, shortly before he died.  It is really special that my girls are able to play on it now. 

*We continued the grandparent tour, and headed to G-ma and G-pa's house for the evening.  Callie helped Pa make pizza and Maya did a whole lot of playing.

Sunday

*This morning was Christmas Program #2 at church.  It was...something else.  Callie didn't really participate and Maya wouldn't sit with me in the audience.  Instead she insisted on running up to and playing on a little staircase that was right next to the area where the Christmas program was taking place, so I had to be right there with her.  By the end, both girls and the Held kids were all in that area and not really paying attention to the program.  It was kind of hilarious.  Shenanigans, I'd say.

Callie is easily bribed, but Maya has not discovered the beauty of
bribery yet, and therefore WILL NOT sit still for pictures with her sister.

*After the program, Auntie Yoda and Auntie Mari took Callie out on an Auntie date for her birthday present.  They took her to DISNEY ON ICE!!!!!!!!  She was SO excited and had a fantastic time.  She even got a huge bag of popcorn and a light up Ariel wand.

*With Callie gone, I got some solo Maya time, as well as some relaxing/cleaning time during her nap.

*After picking Callie up from her Aunties, we headed home for a quiet night of playing, watching "Grinch" for the 2nd time this weekend, dinner and an early bedtime.  At one point while playing, Maya stopped, looked at me, and signed "milk."  So I went to get her a bottle and she sucked it right down.  It is SO cool to see her be able to communicate her needs.

All in all, it was a good weekend as a girl trio.

But we can't WAIT for Daddy to come home.
We had to send him some pics of his girls to remind him that even though sleeping
in and hanging out with buddies might be fun, we are MORE fun.  Clearly.

Lastly, our elves continued their silly ways this week.

One more week until winter vacation.  I can't believe it!  Have a great one!

As I mentioned yesterday, Callie had her preschool Christmas concert last night.

It. Was. Adorable.

I regret the decision to let her wear the necklace because, as you can see, she played with it CONSTANTLY (and also LICKED her lips constantly, so that by the end of the concert she had a ridiculous red moustache), but I was SO proud of how she did the actions and sang some of the time. She has come a long way since last year.  It was such a fun evening.

Anyone curious about Maya's new favorite word?  I'll let her say it for you.  It is my Favorite Thing #2, though I'm sure it won't be for long:

Happy Thursday!

Our first throwbacks are all about GINGERBREAD HOUSES.

I'd like to say they each year's house has gotten a little better, but 2013
was clearly a year of sleep deprivation for a couple members of our household.

This girl works hard and eats hard.
Lots of candy goes missing during the process.

Then we have cute toddlers with mouths agape.

Finally, Callie's Christmas concert at preschool was tonight.  It went MUCH better than last year.

As someone 7 years older than her, that makes me feel old.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Well, we had our first real toddler melt down tonight with toddler #2.  She was having fun poking a little fork into some play doh, but when it was time to start getting ready for bed, Chris told her it was time to be done.

She took it hard.  She immediately freaked out and started shrieking (hmmm...wonder where she learned that?).  Once I took the play-doh away, it was over: screaming, flailing, making quite a scene.  Unfortunately for her, her older sister has toughened us up and the only thing Chris and I could do was look at each other and giggle.  One-year-old tantrumers are SO nothing compared to four-year-old tantrumers.

It will be interesting to see if this as an isolated incident, or the start of a new phase. 

As for the weekend...

Saturday

*We spent the morning decorating the tree.


 *Then we went to a Christmas celebration at G-ma's church.  Callie did some crafts, we had lunch, and even got to meet some wisemen and shepherds.

*While Callie went to dance class, Maya was ADORABLE.

Callie: I am NOT singing in the Christmas program at preschool.  Shouldn't grown-ups be the ones to do a program for kids?  They are bigger than kids are.
Me: But grown-ups love to watch little kids sing.  They think it is so cute.
Callie: NO ONE IS ALLOWED TO WATCH ME AT THE PROGRAM EXCEPT MAYA.

Sunday

*Maya continued her ridiculously cute behavior on Sunday morning.  This girl has been fawned over all weekend by strangers- at the Christmas party, at Lund's, etc.

*During naptime we decorated a gingerbread house. 

*Callie, Boom, Auntie Cat and I went to see a short production of "The Nutcracker," featuring Callie's (and my former) dance teacher, Connie. 

*We got our wreath put on the door, but that is about all the outdoor decorations our house will get.  Besides seeing our tree through the window, I guess.

And then there was wrestle time on Daddy.

As for our silly elves, Coo-Koo and Loony, they have been pretty creative this week.

Happy Weekend!

We had a pretty chill week.  Callie has been displaying a combination of major attitude and sweet excitement about everything, mixed with an obnoxious amount of baby talk and irrationality.  Maya is babbling up a storm and continuously falling down because she wants to keep up with everybody but has tiny little legs.

I am really glad to be out of fall.  September, October and November were less than ideal months, but the magic of December is going to make up for them all...I hope.
