ASK LADY ADVICE

This is a clue to Lady Advice's identity!

Dear Lady Advice,

Sometimes I wake up crabby in the morning and don't feel like talking to anyone.  What can I do to turn my mood around?

Thanks,
Tired Tootsie

*****************************************************
Dear Tired Tootsie,

Just try to relax. One way, is to lay down with palms up. If that does not work, go back to sleep for a bit.

Love,
Lady Advice

Dear Lady Advice,

Fall is my favorite season of the year.  This season, however, is summer.  How do I enjoy walking dogs when it is SO hot outside?  And how do I stop from sweating?  Thanks for you help.
-Sweaty in Summer

Dear Sweaty in Summer,

I can relate. What you could try is, you can get cold before you go outside: Put ice packs all over your body.

Dear Lady Advice,

Sometimes I mix up my two sons.  They are sooo much alike.  Can you help me by pointing out what is unique about them? Looking forward to hearing from you.
-Perplexed Pa

*****************************************************

Dear Perplexed Pa,

You could watch how they act. See their personalities. One is tough. Like really really tough.  One can sometimes be really gentle and he has two girls.
P.s. Doesn't one have a beard?

Love,
Lady Advice

Weekend Wrap-Up: The Dance Recital/Father’s Day Edition!

First up, HAPPY FATHER’S DAY to all the amazing dads and grandpas out there. I feel so grateful to have the best dad and father-in-law and am so grateful that my girls have such an amazing dad and grandpas. This day is definitely bittersweet, as I miss my dad, but I’m grateful to be able to celebrate Chris and Pa.

But before I get to Father’s Day stuff, we have the DANCE RECITAL!

It was such a fun show, and the girls had a huge cheering section: G-ma, Pa, Auntie Cat, Uncle Dan, Auntie Hanna, Boom, Auntie Yoda, Chris and I were all there! The girls had SO MUCH FUN and were excited to stay up til almost 10pm.

Click here to see the video (spoiler: it is over 8 minutes long)! It is actually of the dress rehearsal, and as you’ll see during Callie’s dance, Maya was a TOTAL STINKER while I was trying to film it. But you’ll get the idea... 😃 You’ll also see the finale at the end, which is stinking adorable.

This morning the girls gave Chris a couple gifts.

And then we went to play mini golf!

Afterwards we went out to lunch where the girls decided to do weird things with their food.

After quiet time (which was MUCH NEEDED after the late night last night), G-ma, Pa, Auntie Cat, Uncle Dan, Auntie Hanna and Shambles came over to hang out and eat TACOS!

Chris just left to go hit golf balls by himself, which is probably a really good way for him to end his Father’s Day. ;)

Here are a few more videos from the weekend...Click here.

Have a great week!

A Picture Update: Summer Week 1

The first week of summer 2019 is in the books!  Oy vey.  It is going to go so fast!  BUT.  I'm working on being in the moment and soaking it all in.

This week was exciting, because Callie started the first week of her Summer Theater camp.  It is every morning for 5 weeks, culminating in three performances of an updated version of "Alice in Wonderland" called "Alice@Wonderland." The camp is for kids in grades 3-8, so we had to have some conversations before it started about how she'll be one of the younger ones, and to manage expectations about what part she will get, etc.

She "auditioned" and got the part of Violet- a laughing flower, as well as a dance role as a Wonderland Spirit. She'll also be a part of the chorus, will get to help paint and build sets, costumes, etc.  It is going to be an awesome experience!

While she was at her first day of camp on Monday, Maya headed to Boom's house to hang out with Boom, Lucy and Iris.

Later that evening we took a walk and celebrated the first week of summer. Maya wore her helmet "because I'm as fast as a cheetah so I need my helmet in case I fall down."

I have gone for a run every morning this week around 6am because it is lovely outside then.  On Tuesday, I snapped this gem of a photo. Luna likes running with me, and I like tiring her out right away in the morning.

While Cal was at theater camp on Tuesday, Maya and I got some good one-on-one time in.  We played with Luna, did legos, played outside, and cooked.  And she did it all wearing a super fancy Christmas dress.

On Wednesday afternoon we headed downtown!  Boom and Lucy were matching.  We played in the park and had a snack on the deck. Those girls love each other so much!

On Thursday morning Maya and I walked to the library and read books outside.

Then we had to wait nearly 2 HOURS for an oil change, but the girls were troopers.

It is dance recital weekend, which means we had the dress rehearsal yesterday afternoon.  It's going to be something!  Videos to come...

I ordered the girls each a new (highly clearanced) desk for their rooms.  They came last night and Chris was able to get them put together right before bed.  The first thing they did this morning was organize and get started on all their art and writing projects.  Callie told me earlier that we had to go to the Dollar Store to get pens and notebooks "because I have SO many stories I need to write!"  So now she has a great space to do so.  And Maya loves writing now too, so I'm sure I'll have plenty of great reading material this summer.

Today we went to see Aladdin with Boom, and then out to lunch!

So the dance recitals is on Saturday. It is going to be something else! Here are the professional dance pictures that were taken about a month ago.

That’s about it! Click here for some videos from the week. And have a great weekend!

Wisdom Wednesday: Ask Lady Advice

*Editor's note: I have been the main blogger on Baby Goose for the past 9-10 years.  Well folks, today I'm bringing in a (hopefully) regular weekly guest blogger.  She's nine.  She's a writer (and she is obsessed with having a blog, so this is our compromise).

Without further ado, I give you a brand new advice column just for the Baby Goose readers!

ASK LADY ADVICE

This is a clue to Lady Advice's identity!

Dear Lady Advice,

I have two kids (ages 9.5 and almost 6).  They are awesome, but 90% of the time they ignore any and all words that come out of my mouth.  How can I get them to actually follow directions the first time?

Love,
Misunderstood Mom

*******************************************
Dear Misunderstood Mom,

Don't blame your self. Some kids can be upset about something. Talk with them! See what's wrong. I bet they will feel better after that. You could set up a chart. Every time they don't listen, you put a X. If they do, put a O.

Love,
Lady Advice

Dear Lady Advice,

Hi. Woof! I like to explore in my house and try to nibble things.  Sometimes I eat stuff. But it's no big deal.  Except my family is ALWAYS yelling at me.  What can I do?  Arf! Help!

Love,
Crazy Canine

*******************************************

Dear Crazy Canine,

Really? Nibbling on things? That sure should make your family upset. Just try your best not to. It should turn out alright. :)

Love,
Lady Advice

Mental Health Monday

Hi! I’m back for another installment of Mental Health Monday!

Did you know both times I typed Monday in the title and in that last sentence, it ended up as MOMDAY and then autocorrected? It is kind of ironic now that for my children, every day the next 10 weeks WILL be MOM-DAY.

I will be honest and share that I’m a tad worried that so much togetherness is going to make all of us go bonkers. I have preemptively signed the girls up for various camps and lessons so we aren’t left with too much unstructured together time. I know that for many people, that is the best kind of time. But for me and my girls and the combination of our personalities, it just doesn’t go well.

I am VERY grateful to have the summers off to spend with the girls. But even in the “stress-free” days of summer, I often find myself frustrated and in need of an attitude adjustment.

So I’m leaving this here for myself (and anyone else out there who may need it):
