This week was week 1 of swimming lessons. Maya’s class is pretty chill and plays games, but Callie is in level 2 and it gets hard. They are working on front crawl and backstroke and treading water, and even started learning to dive. It is tough for her, which isn’t something she is used to. And frustrating. She’s not a natural fish, doesn’t like her face in the water, and super anxious about deep water. But her teachers are great and patient and don’t push her beyond what she is comfortable doing. She complains about it some, but always goes willingly. I keep saying “We can do hard things” (thanks to writer
Glennon Doyle for that phrase) and we have had discussions about how everyone has strengths and things that are hard. And how it feels awesome to do hard things and persevere. We have one more week of lessons next week so hopefully she’ll feel better about it all in a week.
Anyway, long rant to say they also get free swim time in the other cool pool there, so that is definitely a bonus!
On Monday afternoon we biked to the library! We got a new bike lock at Target and it worked out great. It is one where you have to use a word to unlock it. Let’s just say the final choice for our unlock word has something to do with stinky bodily functions. Because why not?
Maya also got an amazing unicorn helmet that is perfect for her colorful and crazy personality!
Then there were some shennanigans on Monday night.
After swimming on Tuesday we went to have lunch with Jenna and Sylvia. Later, during quiet time, the girls thought it would be a good idea to put blue ink on their faces so they looked like little Smurfs.
On Wednesday after swimming we went to Boom’s house to see her, Lucy and Iris! Lucy is so close to walking (she does some steps on her own but still prefers to crawl). And is still so goofy!
Laura and Mari came after work and the four of us Henderson girls went to see West Side Story at the Guthrie and it was SO GOOD.
Yesterday the girls and I went to lunch and played outside a little but it was SO HOT.
And then a huge thunderstorm came so we all did some snuggling.
Today we got to play with Auntie Hanna, Bronco and Violet! They came over to our house and Maya and Bronco are such cute little playmates!
Later we went on a bike ride/run with Luna.
And tonight we got a houseguest...
The cousins are so happy to be hanging out!
