Weekend Wrap-Up

Here we go...last weekend of summer.

On Saturday we threw a super fun bridal shower for Laura Suurmeyer!  She and Zach are getting married in October and we can't wait for the wedding.

The girls spent Saturday hanging out with Auntie Cat, G-ma, and Pa.  Auntie Cat got them new water bottles for school, and they had fun doing dishes and washing them.

Today we went to lunch at Auntie Cat's and she and I made one of my blue Apron meals.  Maya did more dish washing (and jello eating), and Cal did more Snapchat.

Chris got Maya to take a nap!  And she made up for lost time from not napping much this week and slept over 2.5 hours.

We spent our final hours of summer at a splash pad and park because it was a beautiful night!  The girls had a lot of fun and it was nice to be outside and spending time as a family.

Teacher workshops start tomorrow, and we also have a conference with Maya's preschool teacher and an open house for Callie's first grade teacher.  It is going to be a busy week!

Summer Wrap-Up: #summer16cjml

Instagram is my go-to picture sharing app, and this summer I used it with the hashtag #summer16cjml.

I looked back over all the pictures I shared there, and it does a pretty great job of summing up the summer.

So I captured the thumbnails, each set in reverse chronological order (earliest bottom right to latest top left), and thought that would be the best way to sum up Summer 2016.

So here goes, #summer16cjml.

Bottom Right: 6/11- Top Left: 6/18

Bottom Right: 6/21- Top Left: 6/29

Bottom Right: 6/30- Top Left: 7/8

Bottom Right: 7/9- Top Left: 7/18

Bottom Right: 7/19- Top Left: 7/23
Bottom Right: 7/23- Top Left: 7/28
Bottom Right: 7/28- Top Left: 8/6

Bottom Right: 8/6- Top Left: 8/18

Bottom Right: 8/18- Top Left: 8/26

I think that about sums it up.  This summer has been awesome and challenging and happy and sad and I'm always very thankful to get these couple of months off to be with my girls.

On to teaching year #13!  Let's hope it's a lucky one!

A Picture Update: Summer, the FINAL week

We are at Week 11!  It is always amazing to me how fast the time goes.  When I'm at week 3, it seems like week 11 is so far away.  And then all of a sudden it is here.

I'm going to do a summer wrap-up post tomorrow, so today I'll just focus on the fun we had this week.

On Tuesday morning we got Maya a cute little bob hair cut and went to brunch, just us girls.

Then I had a couple of adorable ballerinas in the house for a bit.

Later, Callie spent the night at Boom's house, which included a trip to Izzy's for ice cream!  Maya and I got a little one-on-one time too.

On Wednesday I resigned to the fact that we are probably done with nap time.  So instead, enforced quiet time and saw a lot of this cute face on the monitor.

I'm hoping in the fall she'll still nap a couple times a week when she is with the grandparent day care (and I'm sure they hope so too!), but since she'll be starting preschool 2 days a week (with just a short rest time), I figured it was good to give her some experience without naps during the day.  There have been some 4pm meltdowns, but it sure makes her crash quicker at 7pm for bed.

We also had double trouble bath time on Wednesday, which usually doesn't happen any more.  They usually do separate baths.  Callie likes the water hot.  Maya likes the water lukewarm.  They fight over toys.  But for whatever reason, they made it work that day and it was cute.

Yesterday we went over to see the Held's new house and play on the playground nearby.  And then we stopped by my school for a little bit and played in the pillow corner and the playground there.

Uncle Dan took them to the Chutes and Ladder's park after quiet time.

Then we spent the rest of the day obsessing over Snapchat.  If you didn't see yesterday's post, click here! It is pretty hilarious.

We met Boom for lunch today and Maya ate probably at least half of my vegetable curry.

And the obsession with Snapchat continued.  A few new filters are switched out each day, so it is actually pretty brilliant.

This week also marked the 5th anniversary of the bad car accident Chris was in with our friends Nate, Nik and Dave out in Washington back in 2011.  Nate is actually in town this weekend, so it is really special that they will all get to be together to mark the anniversary.

Have a great weekend!  I'll be back tomorrow with some sort of summer wrap-up.

Snapchat

I have been grudgingly dragged into Snapchat a few different times, each of them kind of giving up because I DON'T GET IT.

It's an app where you can send pictures, but they disappear, and from what I have seen so far, people send really random and kind of strange things.  I guess that is because they disappear.  But if you're going to send a picture, why don't you just take a picture with your phone and text it?  I don't get it.

In Seattle, we three 30-somethings were trying our darnedest to figure it out.

And then we discovered THE FILTERS and were endlessly amused! Like this one- it is me with Maya's face! How weird is that?

But there is also a filter that makes you feel flowery and fancy.

So I pulled out my Snapchat app today with the girls and NOW I get it (I don't get how the teens and 20-somethings use it so much without kids, but I totally get the appeal with little kids).

We had a BLAST!

I mean, COME ON! Hilarious!

And then we found this one and about peed our pants:

This might be a great way to help crabby littles who don't nap to snap out of their tantrums.

Because who can be crabby when they have the chance to be a rainbow barfing unicorn????

Timehop Tuesday: The 37-Months-Old Edition!

Happy Tuesday!

It is the 23rd! This girl got a haircut today:

She starts PRESCHOOL in 2 weeks and I can't handle it! She is going to have so much fun, though, and I know she is totally ready.

And also she says things like "So much I love you, Mommy." And holy moly my heart melts.

As for the Timehops, here we go.

Sisters in the rain:

Weekend Wrap-Up: The Seattle Edition + Happy Birthday Uncle Craigles!!!!

Hey there!

First up, it is Uncle Craigles' birthday today.  Happy birthday!!  One of my favorite (funny) pictures of him and the girls comes from his and Laura's wedding from February 2015.

Now on to the weekend wrap-up.  You may remember that I was in WASHINGTON!  Our friends Brent and Bethany live in a suburb of Seattle, so our other friend Jenna and I flew out VERY early on Thursday morning.  Even though it was only 6am by the time we got through security, we still celebrated our upcoming child-free vacation with some (adult) drinks and breakfast.

YUM

As you'll see, we did lots of things, and I got really good at taking selfies of the three of us (a tradition we started on the trip that the three of us took to Chicago two summers ago).  So here are pictures of our various activities.

Top: Dinner at Lee's Brickhouse Pub and a walk by Lake Washington
Bottom: An afternoon at the beach
Popcorn for dinner at the movie "Bad Moms"
On Saturday, Jenna and I threw Bethany a baby shower.  It was special, because we have all thrown each other baby showers for our first babies, and both Jenna and my first baby baby showers were thrown at Bethany's house 7+ years ago in Minneapolis.  It was amazing to be able to be there and throw her a shower before her first baby!

After the shower, we spent some time at a place that houses a bunch of little wineries that do wine tastings.  It was awesome!  Bethany was gracious enough to accompany us (and drink water) while Jenna and I tasted DELICIOUS wines. And maybe got a little goofy. :)

Yesterday we drove into downtown Seattle and did touristy stuff.  We visited Pike's Market, visited the gum wall (GROSS), saw the original Starbucks, walked around a lot, and did a harbor tour.  Also, Mount Rainier was out and very clear!  That doesn't happen very much in Seattle.

We tired ourselves out, so we spent the rest of the afternoon/evening hanging out at Brent and Bethany's house.  My favorite part was feeling the baby kick! We spent lots of time with our hands on her belly.

It was a wonderful trip filled with smiles, laughter, wine, baby talk, and wonderful friends.  Thanks to Bethany and Jenna for a great time!

Meanwhile, the girls were well taken care of by my wonderful husband, in-laws, and mom.  I'm so thankful to have such special people around to be with my girls when I'm away.  They had lots of fun without me!

As fun as my trip was, it was so good to come home to these two little ones (and Chris).

One more week of summer!  AAAAAAAAH!

A (Mid-Week) Picture Update: Summer, Week 10

Hi!  I'm doing my update a couple days early.

Why, you ask?  Because I'm LEAVING. ON A JETPLANE.  Tomorrow at like 7:45am.  To go to SEATTLE to visit Bethany (and Brent). With Jenna.  AND NO CHILDREN.  Until MONDAY.

You guys, there is going to be mimosas consumed at the airport tomorrow morning at like 6:30am.

I love my children (and husband) to pieces, but I could not be more grateful for this trip at this point in the summer.  I'm burned out and a long girls weekend is the exact pick-me-up I need to finish out the summer strong and start the next school year strong.

So therefore, I'll post my pics from the week so far today, and then will be back on Monday night to update you on our lovely trip, and how the girls (and husband) did in my absence.

On Monday we went to the zoo.

On Tuesday we went to see my friend Emily's new baby, Elsie, and her big sisters Vera and Hattie.

On Tuesday night, my mom, sisters, Amy, Mary, and Mari's friend Lauren all went to dinner and participated in something called the puzzle room. I don't really know how to describe it, besides it was a set up "apartment" that they "locked" us in, and we had an hour to figure out clues for how to get out.  I'm proud to say that we did it- in a little over an hour- but we did it!  It was weird and fun and totally intriguing.

We walked from dinner to the Puzzle Room in the rain and managed to see an awesome rainbow.

So many strange clues!  But we figured it all out and uncovered the stair case out of the room that was hidden in the bed.
So so strange.  But so fun.

Today I had Maya to myself, and Callie went to day camp.  I've talked about how much Maya is a mommy cling-on before, and it is still SO true.  I'm hoping this trip helps a little.  Today in the car, when I told her about the trip, we had the following conversation:

Me: I'm going on a plane with Jenna to visit Bethany tomorrow.
Maya: Awwwww...I want a lot of Mommy AT HOME.
Me: You get to hang out with other fun people while I'm away!
Maya: No. Maya will come with Mommy and Callie will stay home with Daddy.

And then when I was putting her to bed she screamed and wouldn't let go of my leg.

So I think we need some separation for a little bit.  It will be good for all of us.

If you are on Instagram, I will likely be posting pictures from the trip throughout the weekend (@katigosselin)...otherwise I'll see you back here on Monday for my (belated) weekend wrap-up!
