Weekend Wrap-Up

The first weekend of summer was beautiful and went by quickly! I went over to drink a margarita with Jenna in her patio on Friday night. I also got some snuggles with tiny Hugo!

We spent a lot of Saturday outside doing yard work, and as you can see in the background the girls moved the play house up there in “pine cone forest” and decorated it for the “zombie apocalypse.” 

Boom, Auntie Yoda, Uncle Craigles, Lucy and Mila came  over to grill out for the third Saturday in a row! We got the little pool out for this one. Then the thunderstorms came suddenly and we had to move quickly into the porch.  It was Lucy’s first real experience with thunder and lightening and she was a bit freaked out. 

Today our big adventure was to Bush Lake with G-ma, Pa, Auntie Cat, Uncle Dan, Auntie Hanna and Mitchell! 

After a quick dip in the water, we found a nice shady spot to hang out and eat snacks. Auntie Cat brought her hammock, too!

Later on the porch, Luna was being naughty and got the business from both of the girls! 

And these lovely selfies showed up on my phone after they had some quiet time with iPads...ha!


Our house smells DELICIOUS right now because Chris made Chicken Broccoli Curry tonight. It was so good, and I’m excited for the leftovers tomorrow!

The Year in Daily Seconds

On the last day of school last year, I got an app that was for uploading one second every day for the whole year.  I distinctly remember sitting in my car a year ago, thinking about what it would be like to make it a full year.  Crazy. Today I got to add the last second, and it is all mashed together in a 6+ minute long montage video.  One second every day, from 6/6/2019-6/5/2020.  If you're up for it, I hope you enjoy!

A Picture Update

Well, teaching year #16 is done and it was by far the strangest.  I did not enjoy many of the work-from-home aspects as I am someone who likes to have a very clear separation between work and home.  But, there were perks.  I was able to go on runs in-between meetings and work outside if it was nice.  And of course, lots of extra family time was both a perk and also not so much depending on the day.  LOL.

I'm still processing all that has happened in our community this past week and a half, and am doing what I can to learn and research and discuss what is going on with others.  I will continue to do so.

The girls enjoyed their first week of summer by spending a ton of time outside.  Here are some pics:

Monday: Luna after a walk, sunset sun rays on my dad's birthday

Tuesday: we learned how to make homemade play doh from a couple of my coworkers over Zoom, and then the girls had a whole play doh station going on the porch

Wednesday: the girls enjoyed some "Gramma Crisp"

Thursday: we used my "Lee" bottles to make sensory tools and I immediately regretted all the glitter. But the bottles turned out cool.

We had writing time on the porch before bed.  As you can maybe see, Maya's story is called "A Fart."


Friday: Luna came with me on a pretty 3-mile run this morning, my last day of school!

Today my dad would have been 65. My Timehop is a little brutal on these days, but I thought I’d share this picture from 9 years ago. We had a family dinner at T&C. Callie was a toddler and got antsy, so he just scooped her up and walked around with her on a putting green. I remember it so vividly. 

Happy birthday, Dad. We love you and miss you. 

Weekend Wrap-Up

Hello.  It has been a very tense, strange, scary but lovely weekend.  All I can think about is the privilege we have.  We have SO MUCH PRIVILEGE.  All the awful things happening are near us but our neighborhood and home are quiet safe. 

The daytimes of this weekend have been lovely.  We spent time outside.  Privilege.

The nights of this weekend have been glued to the news, watching the destruction of our home town.   Watching from our beds.  Safe at home.  Privilege.

So.  It feels weird to even try to do a normal post, but I'm hoping that these pictures will be a small bright spot in your day, seeing as you chose to come visit this little ol' blog.  So I'll include our weekend pictures, as well as some from the past week as well.

Saturday- we met friends for a social distance hike.  We accidentally hiked up the back side of one of the ski hills (the kids took us up a little tiny path that ended up going STRAIGHT UP).  But the view from the top was worth it.

Last evening, Boom (& Iris), Auntie Yoda, Uncle Craigles, Lucy and Mila came over again.  My mom stayed with us last night, since downtown was pretty eventful on Friday night.  And I got to hold Mila (and washed by hands well!), which was such a balm for my soul.



This morning I went for a run.  It was beautiful. 

This afternoon we met up with G-ma, Pa, Auntie Cat, Uncle Dan, Auntie Hanna, Mitchell and the doggies. There was croquet and kickball and snacks. And then I got to hold Mitchell, another balm for my soul!

Friday was the last day of school.  Both girls had a final Google Meet with their classes.

We celebrated with G-ma and Pa, and the new wine glass I got from G-ma.  It will be VERY applicable
this summer.

This Week

I don't have my usual picture update for you today.  It just doesn't feel right. The events that took place in Minneapolis this week have been absolutely heartbreaking.

I don't know what to say about it or how to process it, besides completely acknowledging my own white privilege.  After nonstop scrolling of Facebook and Twitter, I found a couple resources/articles posted often and thought I'd share:

Speaking of love, these two girls are done with their 4th and 1st grade school years. Here are two pictures I will share today. It is really hard to believe how fast the year went and how much they have grown.






I stumbled through a conversation with them this morning about what is going on in our city.  They listened and asked a couple of questions and then moved on with their day. But tonight Callie asked some more questions and I answered as best as I could. I’ll keep doing that and will try to keep educating myself and the girls.
