Weekend Wrap-Up

Ahhhh!  How is it already Sunday night?!?!?!?!?!  Anyway...we had a great weekend.

Maya slept over at Boom's house on Friday night, so Cal and I watched the last Hunger Games movie while Chris was skiing.  As you can see, there were some scary parts...ha.  Maya and Boom had a blast together, as usual.

On Saturday afternoon it was 25 degrees (tropical!) so I made the girls walk to the library with me.  It was a mixed bag of feelings about that endeavor, but they both got books they were excited about and read on the walk home.

Then it was time for MILA'S 2ND BIRTHDAY PARTY!!!  It was a wild and crazy time! ;)

These cousins are pretty dang ADORABLE.

This morning I went for a 2.5 mile run for the first time since early January when I tried to "sweat out" my sickness.  It actually went pretty well, even though I had to mostly stay on the street because sidewalks are atrocious with snow.  And then I did my morning yoga video.  And then I decided to unbox the TAP SHOES I tacked on to a dance company store order I had to make for Callie a few weeks ago.  They were like $25 and I thought it might be fun to find some tap lessons online...or maybe even eventually in person some time...?!?!?!  So I found a bunch of tap lesson videos on YouTube and did the first one this morning and I LOVED IT.

As you can see, an LOL cardboard box was my tap floor, which got immediately destroyed.  So I'll have to maybe invest in an actual tap floor square at some point.  I learned a dance to "Steam Heat," and old tap fave.  So much fun.

Later this afternoon we met some friends out at the same hiking place we went a couple weeks ago.  We brought Luna with us this time!

Another busy week starts tomorrow...and I gotta say I am very glad to be leaving January behind.  We have made it out ok, but we have friends and family who had a pretty tough month and start of 2022.  I hope it gets better for everyone very soon!

A Picture Update: HAPPY BIRTHDAY MILA!

First of all, this little girl is 2 today!! We love you and your sweet little smile!

Not many pictures this week…but we made it to Friday!

The girls had an asynchronous day today, so they hung out at Boom’s house!

I’ll leave you with a reminder from a local artist I follow on Instagram:

Have a good weekend!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Hey all.  Happy Sunday evening.  The weekend flew by!

On Saturday morning I took Luna on a lovely sunrise walk.  And we didn't do much of anything else, as you can see from the pure chaos/Chris sleeping pic on the right.

Today was busier!  We did a brunch with Uncle Dan, Auntie Hanna, Mitchell and Isla after not seeing them for almost a month. It was so good to play with those cute little babies.

Later we watched Boom play the bells at church, and then headed downtown to see Boom, Auntie Yoda, Lucy and Mila!

It was a fun day full of cousins.  Now on to another busy week...

A Picture Update

Well, it is currently 5:22pm on Friday and Maya just got home from school because of a major school bus snafu (she usually gets home at 3:40pm).  She told me yesterday she hates the bus.  I brushed it off. Now I feel terrible. Sigh.  As someone who works at a very understaffed school, I understand how hard things are right now.  But that was a very frustrating and scary almost 2 hours.  But she made it, and for that I am grateful!

Anyway.  Time for some wine.

Here are the pics from the week:

Maya upside down and doing her little puzzles.
Callie getting mic'd for the first time at rehearsal.
Me trying to work from home yesterday with a very annoying dog.

That's all I got.  Stay warm.  Have a good weekend!

Weekend Wrap-Up

Hey everybody!  Happy Martin Luther King Jr. Day.  We all had the day off and were able to get out on a fun family winter hike.  But more about that later.

I thought I'd update you all on my exercise.  Not that it is very exciting, but being sick at the start of January forced me to slow down and take a beat.  For almost a solid year and a half I have had a running goal each month.  It was either a mileage "quota" to hit, or training for a particular race.  I have my calendar pages back to September 2020 with the goal written at to the top of each month.

My 2021 total mileage was 786 miles. It averages to 65.5 miles per month.  Which averages to about 16.375 miles per week.  Which averages to 2.33 miles per day.  It was obviously a much more fluid reality) but I think overall that's pretty cool.

Anyway, I got a terrible cold/cough on Wednesday, December 29th, which lasted 2+ weeks.  I tried to run a couple of times in that time period to "sweat the crap out," which sounds really logical as I'm thinking back on it.  HA.  On this past Saturday I was supposed to run a 5 mile race downtown Minneapolis.  It was the first race I signed up for and trained (mostly/sort of) for that I didn't do.

Anyway, a few days into January I heard about a yoga teacher I had followed on YouTube years ago doing a 30 day Yoga "journey" so I started that up on January 8th when I was able to exist without coughing every couple minutes.

So today (the 17th) I set my January goal.  My plan is to do daily morning yoga and get 11,000 steps 6 out of 7 days a week.  I have no plans to run regularly the rest of the month.  If I feel like it I will, and it will get me to 11,000 easily.  But if I don't, I just know I have to go on a couple of longer walks with Luna, or walk on the treadmill during our nightly Survivor watch.  It feels kind of nice.  The yoga is a different kind of hard for my body, which also is kind of nice.

But I also signed up for a virtual 5K race (I'm a sucker for race shirts and swag!) that I'll do at the end of February. So I will get back into it in February, while also hopefully continuing the yoga.  And then on May 1st I am signed up for a 5 mile race.  On that date I will be one week into being 40, so who knows what my running journey will be in the next decade.  I'm open to anything (except a full marathon again, NO THANKS).

Ok enough of that.  Here are some pics from our weekend.

I ordered a new organizational "system" for our bathroom counter and it is SO MUCH BETTER.  Thanks The Home Edit!

Despite it being a bit chilly, we spent a lot of time outdoors this weekend!  Auntie Cat and I went snowshoeing.  The girls went sledding a few different times, including with Lucy, Mila and Auntie Yoda.

And then we did our little outdoor adventure today too.

Other things from the weekend…Callie worked on a diorama of a “Fur Trading Post” for Social Studies, which requires a quick trip to Michael’s for some supplies.

We spent time lounging in the basement as usual. We watched the 90s classic “Iron Will” and Maya spent half the movie upside down. Luna was unimpressed with the cute husky dogs in the movie.

Have a great week!

A Picture Update

Hi all. Happy Friday!

As of today the four of us in our little household continue to be negative for Covid. I honestly can’t believe it, and am grateful. We will continue to be careful and do what we can to stay healthy…but also know that we still have 3 different schools of germs coming in to our house and it may be inevitable. Thank goodness for vaccines and science!

Last week I think the only pictures I had were of Maya, and this week it is all Cal: a selfie, cool new shoes, and a snowy morning walk to the bus stop.

I also had to throw in a couple pretty sky pictures, as per usual.

Here are Luna’s Friday vibes. I feel similarly.

Have a great weekend- I’ll be back on Monday for the Weekend Wrap-Up since we are off school on Monday.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Hey all-

Happy Sunday evening.  We had a pretty chill weekend.  I'm still coughing some but I didn't take any cold medicine today for the first time in over a week, so I'm calling that a win.

Yesterday morning was above zero (YAY!) so I took Luna out for a walk for the first time in days.  I also finally opened up the two different family calendars we got everyone for Christmas.  And Luna had a cute face.

We spent the afternoon at Boom's house.  The girls had so much fun playing in a different place for the first time in over a week.

Last night I finally got to "meet" my friend Adrea's brand new baby, Hattie!  She was born on Christmas Eve and is totally adorable.  I can't wait until everything settles down and I can meet and snuggle her in person.

Today was very low key at home.  Callie, Luna and I went for a mile long walk in 1 degree weather.  Later today we introduced the girls to the old school Jumanji movie.  Luna was a weirdo.

I made a homemade chicken tikka masala for dinner tonight...it was delicious!  One of my goals of the new year is to try new and different recipes.  So now that I'm feeling better, this was a start!

I'll leave you with another goofy picture of Luna.  Have a great week!

A Picture Update

Remember when I said last week would be a boring update? Just wait until today’s post.

I was out sick Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Maya stayed home on Wednesday because she was sniffy/sneezy, but tested negative with an at-home test (thanks again, Boom!) so she went back on Thursday. Callie woke up Thursday with nose congestion and a bit of a cough so
She stayed home that day, but also tested negative and was better for Friday.

My school decided to go distance until at least next Tuesday, so I worked from home on Thursday and Friday.

THIS IS ALL SO CONFUSING AND FRUSTRATING.

That’s all I’m going to say on that.

Here are my pics: goofy Maya and Luna.

And here are my depressing low step counts this week (on the left, compared to the first week of break on the right😱). The cough and cold air made it just impossible for me to do any running, and even when I tried walking on the treadmill inside I fell into coughing spasms.  Not fun.

I’ll leave you with a complication of Maya flying from the trampoline onto a soft chair while watching Survivor.

The girl is NON-STOP.

Have a good weekend! Stay warm!

Timehop Tuesday

This sums up my mood for 2022 so far:

Thankfully, the four of us all tested negative. I’m still dealing with a crappy cold and cough, but hopefully one more day of rest is all I need. The girls are both back to school today. We’ll see how the rest of the month of January goes…it should be interesting.

Weekend Wrap-Up

Well, the first weekend of 2022 is going to produce the most boring wrap-up ever. We have hunkered down at home because I’m still sick, it’s freaking cold outside, and the world is bonkers.

Chris made Eggs Benedict for the first time in forever yesterday morning, so I was grateful to have that as my first meal if 2022. We also watched the Harry Potter special, which was SO GOOD.

The girls have done an amazing job of keeping themselves entertained, while I have tried to keep my distance. It was fun to see and hear them playing together again…they hadn’t done much of that in the busyness of the school year.

So far Chris and the girls have not seemed to catch the awful head cold I have, and we all went to get tested again this morning just in case. We went to the airport at 7:30am and the whole process took about 50 minutes…long lines!

Back at home there was just a lot more resting (for me) and playing (for them).

They have one more day of break tomorrow, so hopefully they’ll get negative test results back and can go to school on Tuesday. I’m taking a sick day tomorrow, just in case, and will see what my test results are.

So for January is a bit of a bummer. Hopefully it perks up soon.
