Hey all.
First off, Happy Father's Day. It is a day that will forever be bittersweet, as I feel gratitude for all of the wonderful dads in my life, and grief over my dad, who is no longer here. My mom sent me and my sisters this picture this morning. It was from a trip we took to Washington D.C. in 1993.
Before I go on to our weekend, I also want to acknowledge the loss of our Pastor Chris. He fought a battle with cancer and passed away earlier today. He was an important part of why our family began going to our church. He was close with my dad, and was with our family for much of the day that my dad died. And I'll always remember that Pastor Chris had a hand in finalizing Callie's middle name. I wanted Joy, but Chris maybe wanted my middle name Jeanne. We went to church on the Sunday before Callie was born, and Pastor Chris' sermon was all about the word Joy. It was definitely a sign. A few months later, he was part of Callie JOY's baptism celebration.
Any thoughts and prayers to Pastor Chris' family and the Bethlehem community would be greatly appreciated.
This weekend I was lucky enough to spend time with other dads and grandpas in my life, so I'll move on to that.
On Saturday morning a big Gosselin crew helped Nana and Papa move into a new place. I'd say we were a hard working bunch who also knew how to have a little fun.
While I was busy with that, Chris was busy with the girls at the zoo and out to lunch with friends. Sadly, there is no photo evidence, as Chris generally doesn't have my future blog posts on the forefront of his mind. So silly.
Saturday night was Callie's dance recital!!!! I was the "backstage mom," which meant I hung out with a bunch of sugared up and hyper 7-year-olds for 2 hours after their performance. I was exhausted. But got some fun "behind the scenes" shots of the dance recital world.
I wasn't able to film the recital, but did film the dress rehearsal, so here you go! Here is her class performing "Little Cutie Can Can" and the entire studio performing the finale, "Can't Stop Dancin'."
This morning I was still exhausted but dragged myself out of bed for a very hard and slow 9 miles at 6am. I made it, and rewarded myself with a delicious breakfast.
The girls were also both exhausted today (Callie was up until 10pm because of the recital but of course woke up at her normal time of 7am). We had crabby girls on this Father's Day, and didn't get many pictures until our Father's Day celebration began. We hosted a BBQ for Pa, G-ma, Dan, Hanna, Cat and Boom. And Shambles too!
I finally got a wonderful picture of the girls with their wonderful daddy.
The word that I keep coming back to is gratitude.
Happy Father's Day.
