This has been a big weekend. We spent the majority of it helping my parents move from our family home of 25 years into a condo downtown. Our good family friends the Suurmeyers were in town to help as well. It is a very strange feeling for all of us I think...but the condo is absolutely fantastic and we'll really enjoy going there! Here are a few pictures of it:
Some champagne to celebrate!
Callie and Kona had fun hanging out there yesterday and today:
And Callie had fun talking to the dogs and continuing to be a little spaz:
After a busy day there, we stopped back at the house to pick up a car and say a final goodbye. And I couldn't help but have Chris take my picture...look at that sunset!
The past couple of weeks have been fantastic because we have been able to see Callie learn and notice so many things! For example, she has discovered her feet:
And today Bob took a video on his phone (the quality isn't that great, but you get the general idea) of Callie "feeding" herself with the bottle He said she just grabbed it and held it herself.
It is just the BEST feeling in the world to see her grow!
The long weekend is here and I'm thrilled to have 4 days off! The big news of the weekend is my parents are moving, so we'll be busy. It is going to be very strange to say goodbye to the house I grew up in, but as the mug that my mom got me for Christmas says, "Home is where your Mom is" (and Dad too!). I'm excited about their condo and and happy for them that everything worked out (finally!). We visited the condo the other night, so here is Callie playing on the floor:
I can't wait to see it finished and furnished. It is going to be beautiful and a great home for MorMor and Bops!
After work I decided to finally break out the jogging stroller and give it a whirl. It is a "cross training" day on my training schedule so I had the flexibility to do a run/walk if I needed to. And boy did I need to. It is HARD running pushing a 15+ pounder in a big stroller without being able to move my arms! It is something I'll have to get used to. But the plus side is, it will make just regular running seem to be a breeze!
Tonight Auntie Cathleen stopped by and we hung out outside in the beautiful early evening weather:
Finally, I've been fighting the nighttime battle (for an hour and a half) of this:
Callie and I went over to see Kylie and Calvin for a baby pool play date! It was so fun watching the babies hang out...I'll let the pictures show the fun:
It made me sooooooooooo excited for summer break!!!
Kylie and I talked about how we CAN'T BELIEVE the babies are 5 and 6 months old! When did that happen?????
We had an awesome baby-filled weekend! As I mentioned on Friday, we had a baby shower on Saturday for my friend Melissa and her husband Bobby who are expecting Baby Boy A at the end of September. Here are the shower girls:
Then we headed to our friend Brent's birthday party. And we got to see Baby Charlie! I took an adorable series of Callie/Charlie pictures:
She is clearly thrilled to have a little friend!
Yesterday we had yet another co-ed baby shower for our high school friend Brent, his wife Karen, and their 5 week old daughter. Guess what her name is? Kaylee Grace. So the two babies at the party were named a Callie Joy and Kaylee Grace!
Callie was the model baby the whole 3-hour party: happy, adorable, smiley, etc. Until this picture was taken. At this point she was D-O-N-E-DONE. :)
Well, I just got back from a 3 mile run in this ridiculous humidity and have to get ready for the day...it is a short week and then a 4 day weekend! I can't believe May is almost over. Time flies!
It has been a few days since I have blogged because it has been a pretty crazy busy week. I had a stressful week at work with some big meetings and the MN department of ed coming in to do an audit of our special education program. We have a few things left to do for it, but it is almost done. And I think it went well so that is good news. :) Anyway, I was stressed and tired so I didn't get on the computer much.
Now it is Friday and we are looking forward to a fun, busy weekend. We have a baby shower for my friend Melissa (who is in town from New York) tomorrow. She is expecting a little boy at the end of September. Then we'll be heading to our friend Brent's birthday party. On Sunday we have another baby shower for Chris' friend Brent (a different Brent!) and his wife Karen who are in town from Colorado and had a baby girl in April. Plus my sister Laura is home for the weekend! Thankfully we learned last weekend that Callie is a major trooper and handles lots of outings very well.
After a busy week, little Punkin Head looks like this:
I have a feeling I will be looking like her very soon...though I feel somewhat well rested because last night she slept 9 hours!!! Yes, 9 hours without waking up!!! I fed her last night at 8ish pm and she slept until 5am. I have gotten so used to getting up in the middle of the night that it was totally disorienting last night when the first time I got up to feed her was actually morning and a little light outside.
We made it safely home and Callie did ALMOST as good on the plane today as she did on Saturday. She was a little more fussy, but nothing a little breastfeeding or cuddling couldn't handle. Whew! I said in my post last night that she was an amazing baby, and here's the list of things we did to demonstrate why:
SATURDAY *Woke up at 5:30am to fly out of MSP to Chicago-Midway *Took a long train ride/walk to Laura's apartment (stroller ride) *Went to lunch (slept through the meal) *Hung out in the Baby Bjorn with either me, Chris or Laura for 3+ hours while sightseeing (the Bean/Millenium park, mini-golf, LOTS of walking) *Played in the hotel for a bit *Went to dinner (stroller ride) *Went for dessert (stroller ride)
SUNDAY *Slept til 5:30am before waking up to eat!!! *Went to brunch (stroller) *Walked to graduation (in the stroller) *Posed for lots of pictures *Slept through graduation in the lobby with Daddy *Walked to dinner (more stroller time) *Slept through dinner *Walked back to hotel (stroller) *Went swimming! *So tired...fell asleep early
MONDAY *Slept til 3:30am, ate, went right back down until 7am *Played with Mommy and Daddy on the big, comfy hotel bed *Walked to breakfast (and more stroller time) *Walked to Laura's apartment (stroller) *Walked to the zoo (stroller!) *Zoo! (a little stroller, a few arms) *Walked back to Laura's apartment (STROLLER) *More playtime (lots of rolling over!) *Walking/Train rides to airport (S..T..R..O..L..L..E..R) *Airplane ride home
Whew!
Thankfully she loved to take naps during a lot of her stroller times. Other times she was content to just look around at the world. Not ONCE did she have a meltdown. And we were able to time nursing her in between the various activities, so even that was easy! She was the most perfect baby!
The link to all of our Chicago pictures are here in the Chicago-May 2010 folder:
We have had a wonderful time in Chicago this weekend! Callie Joy has been AMAZING. We have been able to do so much and she just troops along in her stroller or the Baby Bjorn. As I blogged before she has had many firsts this trip. Here are a few pictures:
Plane Ride!
The Bean!
Hotel Stay!
Swimming!
This is just a sampling of our pictures. I'll be putting them in an online album on Shutterfly sometime in the next couple of days. I'll post the link when I'm done! As to be expected, probably 95% of the photos that have been taken so far this weekend are of Callie, not the graduate. But she doesn't seem to mind. :)
I'm at the start of a fabulous 4 day weekend. My sister is graduating from law school so we are heading to Chicago to see her and celebrate her awesome accomplishment! There will be lots of Callie "firsts" this weekend that will be fun to document: first plane trip, first hotel stay, first 'swim', first train ride, etc. Pray that all goes well! I'm a little nervous about the plane ride... :) And I'm still struggling with what baby items to pack...so that is my task for the day!
Speaking of baby, a certain little almost-5-month-old baby is tired and needs a nap. Here she is telling me about it:
I couldn't resist the "I Love Mommy" shirt. But I wish it said "I love Mommy and MorMor and Grandma and Nana and Great-Grandma and Great-Grammy"!!!
Happy Mother's Day to all the wonderful mothers and grandmas and greatgrandmas out there!
And I want to give a special shout-out to my good friend Jenna who gave birth to little Charlie yesterday just in time for Mother's Day! Congrats Andy and Jenna!
We had a 5 de mayo celebration at school today which put me in the mood for Mexican food. So my friend Adrea came over and we decided to go to El Loro in Eagan for dinner...with the baby. We got there and it was PACKED. And I couldn't figure it out. People were wearing sombreros, drinking beer, and being crazy. So we start to fight the crowds at the door (with a baby in a big carrier and diaper bag, mind you) until I remember..."DUH! It's cinco de mayo!" Of COURSE a Mexican restaurant will be nuts. At that moment I felt like an idiot AND an airhead mom. Who brings their baby to a Mexican restaurant on the craziest Mexican holiday of the year? :) So we ended up at a very NON-Mexican restaurant Jake's and had a lovely dinner which my beautiful baby slept through.
Now that I write the story it doesn't seem as funny as it was to us at the time... but the combination of lugging all the baby stuff around, the crazy people in sombreros with beer, and the fact that I had just spent ALL DAY doing cinco de mayo stuff made my choice to go to a Mexican restaurant on this day seem RIDICULOUS after the fact. :)
Anyway, later my silly baby would NOT fall asleep at her 8:00pm bedtime! She was laughing, cooing, and moving around. And I was loving it! How can you make this happy little face go to sleep???
And Daddy had to miss all the fun because of two softball games in the horrible windy and cold weather!
Oh geez...I just noticed it is almost 11pm. I need to go to bed but am WOUND UP. I can only hope for this much energy tomorrow at work...
Oh, one other thing: Chris and I are going to spend the next 12 weeks before our 5th wedding anniversary doing a lot of running...we are signed up to run a half marathon on our anniversary weekend! I have been having some motivation issues so I knew I had to sign myself up for a race or I would never get my butt in gear. And I somehow managed to get Chris to join me! So Sunday starts 12 weeks of training...now I'll finally try out the jogging stroller I got for my birthday. :)
Tonight Callie rolled over a couple more times! She's been a fun little baby to be around...it is fascinating to watch her try and figure out the world around her. We have so much to look forward to as she gets bigger and learns more!
