Bops (my Dad) figured out last weekend when Callie was screaming during the musical that if you throw a blanket over her she is instantly OUT. And ever since that method has worked for calming our screaming baby (though it isn't very often that she actually IS screaming, thank goodness!). So here is Daddy using the strategy:
And her chunky little arm poking through...so cute!
It has been a really fast week, and I can't BELIEVE it is May tomorrow! We're planning on having a very productive weekend by cleaning out all of our crap! :)
If I put Callie on her side (almost on her tummy) she is able to roll herself on her back. I got video of her doing it a couple of times- right away at the beginning, and then I put her on her side and she did it again. It looks like she rolled back on her side herself but it was actually me pushing her over. But she went back on her back on her own!
Callie had a big day! She went on her first road trip AND made her first trip outside of Minnesota! We went to visit my Grandma in Eau Claire. She did so great in the car- slept the whole way there and the whole way home!
Here she is playing with her Great-Grandma!
We had a fun and busy weekend. Last night we went out for my birthday dinner with my parents, Bob, Mary, Cathleen, and Amy and Peter. After a quick stop at DQ for dessert, we headed to a musical at North Hennepin Community College (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee). My mom played the flute in the pit orchestra for the show. She dedicated her performance to Callie in her bio in the program saying she "would like to dedicate her performance to her new grand-daughter, Callie, in the hopes that music will also play a meaningful role in her life." I hope so too! Unfortunately Callie did not hear a lick of the show because she got crabby right before it started so my dad stayed out in the lobby with her (while she was screaming at one point, though we in the theater were blissfully unaware and enjoying the show)...thanks Bops!
Earlier in the day we were playing on the floor and she was having fun with her elephant blanket:
No rolling over yet...still close...and as much as I try to roll her over myself, put her on her back, put her on her tummy, rock her back and forth, etc., she won't do it! Clearly she isn't ready. Sometime soon, but not now. :)
A year ago on my 27th birthday we found out we were having a baby. I didn't think there was much that could top that! After a fantastic whirlwind year, it has been topped. On my 28th birthday I HAVE my baby AND I get to hang out with her all day! There is nothing better than that!!!!!
So I've taken a couple of pictures of Callie in the past month that are a little ridiculous on the pink:
But I promise, that isn't all she wears...see?
Okay, so when I typed that last sentence about her not wearing pink all the time (which I typed before actually finding the pictures), I have to admit it was a little challenging to find pictures of her in outfits that didn't have much pink. But I found a few...which I'm sure my sister Mari appreciates seeing as she once told me she will NEVER buy Callie anything pink! :)
And speaking of pink...her outfit today is P-I-N-K-PINK (though partially covered with a yellow bib, which is a bummer because usually I color-coordinate her bibs...but I seriously need to do laundry, so yellow it was today!). Anyway, she discovered a fun toy to play with...until she got mad!
Today Callie is officially 4 months old! I entered her picture into the Star Tribune Cutest Baby Contest and her round of voting is today starting at 10am!!! So go to this website and vote!
Callie was a CHAMP today. It went MUCH better than her 2 month check-up! She was smiling and giggling with the nurse and doctor. They thought she was adorable (of course!). She even did great during the poking and prodding.
So her weight and height are slowing down a little (whew! I thought at the rate she was going she would be 50 pounds by the time she was 1!) but her head is still growing. :)
Here she is now...totally OUT.
We're expecting a pretty sleepy baby for the rest of the day.
Today we went to the Twins game with my dad. It was Callie's first Twins game outside the womb. She wasn't too sure about it. The loud noise of the crowd and the loud music sometimes scared her and made her cry. She slept a little bit after about the 3rd inning and did okay until the 7th inning. I ended up taking her out when the Twins had 3 guys on base because the crowd was REALLY loud...but all in all she was a really good baby! Here are some pictures:
The last one was in the car on the way home- but I couldn't resist! So adorable!
So I think I mentioned in my last post that Callie Joy is a total wiggle-butt. Nothing demonstrates this better than what she does during the night. Last night she went to bed looking like this (dramatization- not actually what she wears to bed:)) Set nicely in her wedge thing that prevents her from rolling over...
And when she woke up to eat at 4am, she looked like this (again, another dramatization :))
...when did that happen? When did 16 whole weeks go by? Holy crap!
Callie continues to be a JOY! She is such a happy and smiley baby. She loves to "stand up" and has no time for sitting down when on laps. She loves to be moving around and is a total wiggle-butt (just like her sister Kona!). She's SO CLOSE to rolling over it's driving me crazy. Maybe if she didn't have a 97th percentile head it would be a little easier for her, but I wouldn't have her head any other way! hahahahahaha.
Here are some pictures from the past few days:
Little Big Cheeks!
Hanging with Auntie Cathleen!
Grandma trying to get someone to roll over!
Bumbo!
Cuddling with Kona!
Hanging with neighbor baby Wes (he's 10 weeks younger than her)!
It has been another very busy weekend! My very dear second cousin Andy married his lovely sweetheart Beth yesterday. It was a beautiful wedding and wonderful reception- and Callie's first wedding (outside the womb!). Because of this wedding she met lots of Johnson cousins and my Uncle John and Aunt Jen! Here she is enthralled by John's beard:
And of course she got to see her Henderson Aunties again!
And she was 15 weeks old on Tuesday! Here are a few pictures:
Who is that cute baby in the mirror?
How can you resist this face?
An outfit Daddy put on- granted it was after she pooped through her first outfit! His explanation: they both have flower patterns!
We're looking forward to see lots of family this weekend- Callie will meet a lot of Ekeberg/Johnson relatives because my cousin Andy is getting married on Saturday! Can't wait!!!!
Lately when Callie nurses on the right side she moves her arm around like she's swimming. It is only on the right side and it happens EVERY time. It is so funny!
